Things i should get checked / replaced

i have a 2007 mazda rx-8 automatic, i dont know very much about them. The car sat in the driveway for about7 years after a wreck (just some suspension parts) i got it started up and fixed recently, im wondering what i should get checked and or cleaned replaced after the car sitting for so long. Im having a lot of issues with the car starting, and shutting off randomly ( shop said i have a severe electrical problem but couldn't tell me anything else). My catalytic converter just went out , its clogged so im getting a new one, and i have a bad solenoid code : ( P2757 TCC PRESSURE control solenoid performance / stuck off) when i had it towed to the transmission shop she said she couldnt do anything because of the Cat and the electrical problem.. idk. any suggestions would be awesome so i can get my car running again and get things replaced and checked so everything runs smooth. thanks guys.

A clogged cat will destroy your engine in short order, so its important to get it replaced or removed.

After that, if it has sat so long I would be hesitant to start it. First, put some new gas in it, do you own a gas can? Next, ignition coils, spark plugs and ignition wires need to be replaced every 20k miles. If you dont know how old they are, they need to be replaced. Same with the air filter. If you can do an oil change, that would be good as well.

Next, you will need to diagnose that electrical problem. Can you be more specific? Is it possible a wire got cut / shorted during the accident seven years ago? Check both fuse panels (under the hood, left hand side and drivers side foot well right side). It might also need a new battery, sitting for seven years wont be good for any battery.

Good luck!

Read this thread thoroughly:

Things to check

Starting the Engine
• Starter
• Battery
• Engine Compression
• Grounding Wires
• Ignition Coils
• Spark Plugs
• Spark Plug Wires
• Fuel Pump
• Fuel Injectors

Keeping the Engine at an Idle
• Ignition Coils
• Spark Plugs
• Spark Plug Wires
• Engine Compression
• E-Shaft Sensor (ESS)
• Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF)
• Front O2 sensor
• Catalytic Converter (Cat)
• Intake Vaccum

RX8 Club’s recommended maintenance schedule, more comprehensive and proactive than Mazda’s schedule
30,000 miles:
- Replace Ignition coils
- Replace Plug wires
- Replace Spark plugs
- Clean MAF (mass air flow sensor)
- Clean ESS (e-shaft sensor)
- Reset ESS profile
- Clean power steering connections
- Clean battery terminals and clamps
- Replace transmission fluid
- Replace coolant (Mazda FL-22 is highly recommended)
- Replace air filter
- Replace brake fluid (fluid in the brake lines AND the clutch line)
~$300 USD in parts if you shop smartly.

every 60,000:
...all 30,000, plus...
- Clean all chassis electrical grounding points
- Replace accessory belts
- Clean OMP lines
- Replace rear differential fluid
- Replace thermostat
- Clean / Straighten AC condenser fins
- Clean / Straighten oil cooler fins
- Inspect catalytic converter
- Clean / Inspect intake valving
- Consider / inspect all points in 90,000+ as well, many items fail early
~$130 USD in parts if you shop smartly.

90,000:
...all 30,000, plus any 60,000 not yet done, plus...
- Replace coolant bottle
- Replace radiator hoses
- Replace radiator
- Replace front O2 sensor
- Replace motor mounts
- Inspect clutch pedal assembly for flex / weld breaks
~$900 USD in parts if you shop smartly.
At 100k, anything original in the cooling system is really suspect and failure prone. It represents the biggest threat to your engine.
