Speedometer and Fuel gauge.

Hi, new here and wondering if anyone can help?

ive for swapped the running gear from a 192 rx8 into another car. Still retaining stock ecu, immobiliser and cluster. Everything is working on the cluster apart from the speedometer and fuel level gauge.

From what I’ve read the speed signal comes from the abs sensors into the abs module (which I don’t run) then into the cluster. Is there a way of getting the original speedometer to work off one of the original abs sensors or even hooking up another pick up?

lastly the fuel sender, from what I’ve read from 2 senders to the built in computer in the cluster to give a reading. Is there a way of getting it to work off 1 sender? Not fussed about it reading 100% accurate just want some sort of reading to give me a rough idea on fuel level

thanks in advance

Does the vehicle you're swapping into have CANBUS?

No it hasn’t, it’s in a old Ford and engine loom is separate from the rest

Ah. The problem there is vehicle speed is passed to the ECU via canbus, so what you could try is set up an arduino canbus shield to play the role of the ABS module and convert vehicle speed from whatever the original car had to the canbus signal the ECU needs, but there's the small problem of handshaking between ECU and pretend ABS module, you might be a bit on your own there. It might work if you just output speed signal on the right CAN address without handshaking first.

No idea for the fuel quantity sensor.

You could also try an automatic rx8 ECU, loom and cluster. The 2004-5 automatics had a tranny-mounted speed sensor and a 4 port 192 motor.
