snow tires

I'm looking to put some snow tires on this beauty. Ive gone to Sullivan Tire and Town Fair tire places here and I've gotten snubbed. Any one know where I should look.
Its not a far ride to work but want to cover my bases.

Man. I'm no northerner but I know better than to drive a sports car in the snow. You may try finding rims off of one of the Auto 8's and putting snows on them, as the s1 auto's had 16'' rims.

^^ 16" won't fit over the regular front brakes, but the idea is good. Any 17" rim, even steelies, give you much better options than those R3 19"s. Try order from TireRack? They do winter packages, rim and tire, mounted and balanced, ready to put on the car.

Totally spaced the fact that the Manual cars have bigger brakes. Or the sport variants. Solid catch as per usual grand master L.

I've driven mine in the snow many times over the last decade with no problems whatsoever. A couple of things are mandatory:

1. Winter tires on every wheel. An RX-8 with stock summer tires is a wholly different car; an accident waiting to happen in snow, on ice and even on dry pavement at temps below 40 F.
2. You have to know how to drive a RWD car in winter.

the guy here in Town Fair tire said that putting a different size rim wasn't possible, that i should park it for the winter. I guess he's not an rx8 guy. any particular rim suggestions? Id love to know what any of you guys have already used so i could key right in on a set

Last time I drove an RWD car in the snow it was heavy, had the wrong tires, and no power. It was terrifiying. As far as Rims go, just find a smaller set, some 17's to fit over the brakes and throw some snows on it and go.

I drove my old 8 through the past 3 PA winters just fine.

17" wheel/tires set with Blizzaks from TireRack and I was passing stuck SUV's all day long. It's incredible what a proper set of snow tires can do.

In fact, i'm selling them here: https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-parts-s...izzaks-263491/ Price is OBO.

The absolute BEST snow tires cost a little over a grand. They are called," A Beater".

I mean cmon, you can bug a decent winter beater for less than what 1 small accident would cost you. Keep it mind, its not just YOUR driving you need to worry about.

Love my set of 225/50R-17 Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3s. I look forward to snowy days, zipping past spun out, overweight AWD vehicles on the delightfully twisty Saw Mill River Parkway. Ah, winter!
