A couple of weeks ago, I was on my way home from work doing about 70 on the highway. All of a sudden, the car made a loud POOF sound and then ran rough all the way home. I used Torque to get the code, and it was throwing a P0301 (cylinder 1 misfire), and running VERY rough. If I let it idle, it would die.
Fast forward to now, I checked the coils and wires for spark, they all checked out good. So, i decided to check the plugs. The first one I pulled was the rotor 1 Lead plug. It had been ruined by something hitting it. All of the other plugs looked good, just the one was damaged. I replaced the plug, and it still misses horribly and won't idle. I also get a multiple misfire code as well.
Could this be a sign of blown apex seals? The car has 127K miles on it, and other than this, I have never had a single problem with it other than longer cranking times when it was warm.

Paimon, we pulled an engine from this car and it actually started and ran, they drove it off the tow truck in to the garage and he had been driving it for a while at college this way.

Holy crap! How did it run?!?

No, I didn't drive mine. Once I got it home, I limped it next to the garage, and it's been cold and snowy, so yesterday was the first time that I've had a chance to dig into it.
