Semi-Metallic vs. Ceramic for RX-8
Semi-Metallic vs. Ceramic for RX-8
Hello everyone... first time posting on here, so please forgive me if there is already a thread about this; my search didn't show one.
I'm planning an upgrade to my brakes and rotors and have been investigating whether to get Ceramic or Semi-Metallic pads for it. What has been your experience? I live in the PNW where it is wet a lot, though I mostly drive the RX-8 dry days (I still need to consider the rain, Lol!)
The price difference is only a few bucks, so I'm deciding based on performance (non-track) and noise. Seems semi-metallic perform better but ceramics are quieter.
What have you all tried and/or experienced with those two kinds?
P.S. - Here is the set I was looking at getting: https://brakeperformance.com/brake-r...nc-coating.php

Operating temp, durability, friction level, dust and noise are the variables you are playing with when selecting a pad compound. Well that and price. Used as the car was designed usually the OEM pads are dialed in well. In my experience ceramics are low noise, low dust and good friction. Something I would consider for a street car that I wanted to keep clean. Semi-metallics usually add heat capacity, more noise and more dust. I would use pads like these for a more track focused compound. However these are just generalizations and there is plenty of application overlap with compounds. My default recommendation to anyone not using the car on the track, is go with OE. The stock pads have good bite, feel and modulation. They can overheat quickly but not on the street.
