Rx8 sat down with me

Had the car 4weeks , one day driving along it started to lose power , pulled in to roadside, tried to restart it , sounded like it was running on one cylinder( if it was a normal four cylinder engine that is ), pon putting it on a tow truck we noticed a small puddle of oily fuel. ,been in touch with mazda garage , no help , they said take engine out and throw it away. Any ideas people , please email me with suggestions, johnallan64@btinternet.com.

Cheers
John

did you get a compression test done before purchasing the car.
Did mazda do the compression test when they advised you to throw the engine out?

Provide more details, what year is your car, mileage? what maintenance has been done?
So that more experienced users can chime in with their expertiese

Maybe I should confess that it wasn't me that bought it , it was a friend of mine , he bought it as seen which I thought was a mistake straight away .
It is a 2006 , around 40,000 miles, no compression test or checks done on vehicle .
Mazda didn't do a compression test

It sounds like the rear bearing has failed. Usually resulting in loss of power, a tractor-like sound and sometimes oil leaking from the rear of the engine

How certain are you with that answer , and how difficult would it be to fix

Well if you were to take a peak under the car and tell me there is oil dripping from between the engine and gear box, I would be 90% certain. To fix it you would need the engine rebuilding

Yank that motor out and A) rebuild it or B) find a good 6 or 4 port motor and drop it in.

6 port = manual trans
4 port = auto

Be careful about statements like this. It's not quite correct. From what I know:

6 speed manual trans = 6 port
5 speed manual trans = 4 port
Auto pre 2006 = 4 port
Auto post 2006 = 6 port
