Rx8 problems.

Ok i took my 8 out for a drive to more precisely explain whats going on. 2005 AT with 68800 miles. In 2nd gear when it hits 70 it will fail to shift to 3rd and misfire, i have to let off the gas for it to shift to 3rd. When in drive at a stop light it idles at around 845 and drops down to 700 repeatedly (about every 10-15 sec) and causes a vibration sensation. When the display says the engine shifts there is a delay between that and the engine actually shifting. This has been going on since getting it. The ignition system has been replaced and that didn't help. It also does not like to start hot at all and starts slow when cold as well. It has an optima red top battery but other than that it is completely stock. I have cleaned the ESS and MAF as well as resetting the NVRAM. It also overheats to around 212F. But i will be replacing the coolant system so i suspect the overheating problem will not last long. But as for everything else. Is it time for a new engine?

Sounds like it :-( get the compression checked before you dump a bunch of money into it.

As for the transmission, check the fluid, maybe a flush is in order.

I flushed it until it was clear. I'm pretty sure the thermostat is done for.

I noticed something else today. When I drive slowly, there is a squeaking coming from the front of the car. Could this be the shocks?

It's not a high pitch squeak. It makes the sound when the car hits a bump or moves in any way.

Could be shocks, sway bar, bushings, wheel bearing, belts, alternator, AC compressor, or mice.

How about some more detail

FL loss of power at 7000 rpms

my car would run smoothly up to 105mph on freeway, one day it stopped at 650,0rpms and wouldn't push/shift any higher. thought I ad lost my engine, after talking to Charlie from turboclinicmiami, he recommended I check my catalytic converter first. He was right , I removed the cat section myself and hollowed out the honeycomb, haven't had a problem since.and yes there are pro`s and con`s to this.
