Can anyone tell me why my car sometimes does this during cold starts.

Any advice much appreciated.

Which part are you referring to?

I heard a heat shield rattle, what sounds like an engine missing one or more seals, and a pretty big idle stability problem.

I had a misfire on cold starts. My battery was bad, another guy was having an issue and his plugs were bad. start from there... battery, coils, plugs, wires..

Yea I wasn't meaning the heat shield rattle. It does it sometimes a little while after start up for about 30 seconds then it sorts it's self out, after that there's no problems.

Mine would do the same thing not to long ago on cold starts. It was kind of like it was flooding and couldn't burn the gas off till it warmed up. Got BHR coils at the start of the year and haven't had the problem return sense. When was the last coil change on yours?
