Power steering is very hard when engine is cold. Any fixes to this problem?

 

Buy a BMW.

 

It's hard...... only when it's cold? So when it's warmed up it works just fine?

 

Sounds like it's hard first thing in the morning but then loosens up as he starts moving it around.

 

Are there any lights on the dash? A common problem is the electric power steering connector roughly under the coolant overflow bottle. If it gets wet, it can cause power steering outages. Perhaps as it warms up, moisture evaporates from it. I'd check that first.

 

I think Loki's probably on the right track. Since it's an EPS system, can't really think of anything else that would loosen up once the engine is warmed up.

 

It's electric but it does have moving parts...........

 

Of course it does, but since it's electric there is no fluid to warm up in a pump sitting next to the engine. If he said it starts to get loose after driving it for a few miles then I might think that some of the grease/rubber bushings in the linkages was warming up.

Honestly, more information is needed to really try and diagnose. My point was Loki's suggestion was a good place to start given what we know.
