Rx8 idles fine, will not push out power

i have a 2004 rx8 automatic. It idles fine now that I cut the catalytic converter (before it would keep turning off) ,but it still will not push out power. I can’t get it to drive unless I put it in reverse first. It won’t go over a few mph, but it will rev and idle all day. I checked the mass air flow sensor, that checked out, changed the fuel injector resistor, it has all new spark plugs and coils. The computer popped up the codes for the ssv and the vapor canister purge solenoid. Changed both of those. Still having issues. Anyone know what’s wrong?

I don’t know much but..

Sounds like it’s in limp mode to me, then again I’m sure Loki or jnxi will chime in later and tell you what to do.
Best of luck man.

What happens when you try to go? Is it revving high but moving slowly or is it not responding to you pressing the gas, or it goes up to a certain rpm and then stops?
^^ Definitely sounds like limp mode, which would point to an OMP problem. It will rev fine in neutral, as you say, but not go above 3k in any gear.

Did the repairs you performed make the codes go away? are there any other codes?

But OMP malfunction would be indicated, yes?

I am thinking maybe the transmission as well, seeing you can't get into D without stopping the shifter at R first.

it goes into gear it just won’t move. What is OMP? I’m kind of new to the whole rotary engine thing.

not responding when I press the gas. It still Revs up to 7k rpm in park. When it does move it’s only like 3 mph. I never hooked the computer back up to it after the repairs it just stayed in the same condition... say it is in limp mode, how could I get it out? And I could add a video of what it’s doing to the thread tomorrow

You need to learn about rotaries then. Click on the links in my signature.

Oil Metering Pump injects oil into the engine to lubricate the apex seals. Yes our engines burn oil by design. Make sure you check your oil every other time you get gas.

If the ECU detects a problem with the system then it goes into limp mode to protect the engine.

Has the transmission been maintained before?

This sounds like a transmission problem perhaps. You say it's in gear but won't move? Has the trans run out of fluid?

What if you manually shift into a higher gear, does it make any difference?

To be honest this sounds like a bigger problem than you + the internet can figure out effectively. Do you have a reliable Mazda dealer near?
