HI all

I was just quoted $800.00 australian for MAZDA for a set of new brakes. That sounds a little high, I'm i right?

What should it cost?

Cost depends on what they're going to do. If that was a dealer, I'd guess that they were going to replace the pads and resurface the rotors, and make a huge profit. A dealer wanted to charge me $700 US to do that. I found that I could buy a kit with decent quality pads and new rotors for a bit under $250 shipped. After taking a closer look at the condition of my rotors, I decided all I needed was pads and a piece of emery cloth.

It's hard to get a good deal on brake work because there are lots of car owners who are intimidated by the safety aspect and are ripe for whatever is charged.

If you're up to doing it yourself, check on-line parts places in Australia. Check here or in the wheel, tire, brake forum for opinions on whether a particular brand is any good. And look up the DIYs here, as 2stroke said.
