Retiring my RX-8

I need to make some posts, because I've got a gorgeous 2008 RX-8 I want to sell. I've been in here lurking for 3 years, and I've posted 6 times, but my post count says only 3.

I tracked my RX-8 once, about two weeks after getting it. Everything about the trip was awesome, but my imaginative amortization of tracking costs suggested it is about $500/trip. That was at High Plains Raceway near Denver, CO.

Honestly for the price to quality of driving experience, I don't think the RX-8 can be beaten at all. I spend the first four months of ownership bubbling to my wife about how it is essentially an underpowered real race car with lots of comfort items. Handling and throttle response in the power band are more perfect than anything I've driven on the street. Underpowered is good, too - the few times I lost control TCS came in and saved me, instead of leading to a very embarrassing insurance call.

I'm really going to miss this car, but honestly it isn't good for my temperament. I'm an old man with lots of kids - for now, the RX-8 is too passionate of a driving experience for me. :D

I put a Walker cat on it after about 6 months of ownership - my OBD2 port scanner was reporting that the stock cat temperature was ~1900'F when revving hard. The Walker cat brought that temperature down to 1600'F. I've put about 8000 miles on it since and still have the OEM cat. As soon as I got the car I replaced the coils, plugs, transmission fluid, diff fluid, and rear brake pads. New Falken FK452s also went on.

I don't drive much, I've put 10k on it in the 3 years of ownership.

I'm looking for my map scrap, I kept the High Plains Raceway map on my dashboard with a piece of tape during the drive. If I tracked more, I would have put a lot of time into tweaking my Torque App settings for lap timing and other important readouts.

I was finally able to get an AUX plug in mine for cheap with one of these:
Amazon Amazon

The Bose stereo sounds really good! Also not good for my temperament. :D

I think this car was on the track with me that day.

I met Don Walker and learned a lot about the RX-8. Honestly if I wasn't busy with 5 kids (ages 12, 7, 4, 2, and 4mo) and all the complexity and expensive that life entails, I'd probably be tracking at least once a month. It is why I bought the car. And I said many times, if I'm not going to track it, I don't want to own it.

Now I have 11 posts. Can I list my car for sale? This seems like the place for it to have the best next-life. :D

The Stormy Blue is an amazing color and you should be able to sell just based on the color alone. If I didn't already have three RX-8's I'd be inquiring about the car. I have 5 kids and none of my cars are really conducive to a family that larger other than my 15 Sienna. I just enjoy them when I can really. I really think however that you should keep your 8. Once you sell it and see another one on the road, the regret will start to set in and then in about a year or so you maybe back on the market for another. That's how these cars work. They're addicting. Would love to see more pics of your car if you have them!

Thanks mazdaverx7. I can't really imagine liking a car better than this one. If I'm not going to track it then keeping it just feels like hoarding. I have way too much stuff already. You're right. If I sell it, I'll regret it, but it will be one of my least regrets.
