Hi, I just bought my 2010 rx8 r3 and already the motor is being replaced with a new one. How bad does this change what I can get out of the car, looking to sell and get another rx8 but a little older

 

Eh, depends on the person but I'd see it as a positive selling point.

 

Yes I am, bought the car with 83k miles on it for 13k hoping to get 15 or 16 out of it

 

It won't hurt the cost. But it also won't add any value. Ask what you will for it, but don't expect to get more than what you paid. Possibly even less...

The newer engine will help it sell, but won't add value really. But if I were looking to buy a used R3 I would choose the one with a fresher engine. The original engines are not any better than a Mazda reman.

Yeah, I've been trying to get rid of it with the stock motor, having extended warranty payed off on this one. It honestly wouldn't hurt my feelings if someone gave me 13k for it lol. I'm probably going to put it up on this site see what offers I get.

I'm located in Virginia but I'd be willing to sell to any of the surrounding states so hopefully someone wants an r3

 

An 83K mile car with a newly installed Mazda remanufactured engine is significantly more desirable than the same 83k mile car with the original engine running well, in my opinion. I would chose the car with the fresh Mazda engine every time. That said, I'd choose a low mileage R3 (let's say 30K) with a well kept original engine over the new reman. engine car.

I'd say the car with 83K miles and a new reman. engine is worth less than a low mileage 30K miles car that runs and tests well, because of general wear and tear and the expectation that other systems are getting long in the tooth.
