Are you within the warranty?
If not, are you removing and reinstalling the engine yourself?
Where are you in the country?
What is your budget like?
Are you looking for a used engine, a remanufactured engine, a rebuilt engine, or to get yours rebuilt?
Are you looking for a basic rebuild or any additional work as well?

Mine blew with 8 days before the 8 yr warranty end date. Still awaiting word from mazda if there going to do it for free or not. But let me tell you if you bring it there and they open up the engine and conclude that its not a warranty issue, they will charge you $1800 for labor.

Not true^
Dealers do not open up the engine. They submit paperwork and test results to Mazda. The only reason a dealer would open an engine is if warranty on it was already denied or expired AND the customer insisted that they do a tear-down. Dealer techs are NOT trained in how to disassemble and reassemble a Renesis.

Guess they were lying to me to get more labor hours, i highly doubt it would take 18 hrs for compression tests and for them to hook it up to a computer. They were the rudest dealer ive met yet.

Yes, dealers are known to lie to get money from customers. Not all that uncommon, for any brand of car. The dealerships are still all run by humans in a business to make money.
