Question about cluch and flywheel
Hello, I own 192hp 5 speed MT. One day I couldn't start it, so I asked a neighbour to jumpstart it while towing. As soon as I got it started, I went to my friend to check it. He got the starter out and found that the flywheel's outer circle is off (I'm not a mechanic so I don't know the names, sorry about that). So now I'm searching for a new flywheel and a clutch (the one inside is almost out too). Also I learned the hard way that the flywheel from the high powered rx8 doesn't fit. So I wanted to ask you guys, which clutch and flywheel would be the best?

Ouch,
Cheapest would be a used factory one, but you would want to source it locally. The one I have would cost an arm and a leg to get to you. If you want a performance upgrade, there are lightened ones. They typically need a rear counterweight. Some threads here talk about using one from an RX7, I bought new. If you look at light ones, there are usually "street" and "race" versions. I would go with the "street" type. Once you look at the factory one, you will see that both are a MASSIVE reduction in inertia over factory. I wish I had taken pictures when I had both out and available.
But the factory one looks like this https://www.carid.com/mazda-rx-8-clutch-flywheels/.
notice the thick steel rim all the way around on the back. This is not only heavy but is out on the edge, making it very hard to accelerate. And, you have to spin that up before you can make the tires go faster.
The street light ones will look like this https://www.good-win-racing.com/miat...streetlite.jpg You cannot see the back, but the rim is gone.
The "race" ones usually have the black ovals cut out to be even lighter.
Check the DIY section for help getting it on and off. And, I would change the release bearing while I was in there..
AND, I am in the US, we do not have the 5 speed here. There may be differences that I do not understand. Hopefully the European owners will correct any mistakes I made.
Good luck.
