I finally got the car on the road after 6 months of odds and ends. It runs great. Pulls strong, idles smooth. But whenever I sit at idle, it smells very rich. It smells like an old carburetor with the choke stuck on. Eye burning rich. My clothes stink from walking around the car.
And I ran through almost 1/4 tank of gas in a very short time. Most of the time it was running at idle. Some in town driving at normal speed. A few blasts through the gears at higher RPM. This was in less than 60 minutes. It also didn't want to restart after I parked it to run into a store. Like it was flooded.
It would seem to be some kind of fuel leak, but again, it runs great. I know there are many threads here to explore, but hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

What's the history of odds and ends that were worked on?

 

Rocker repair, clean interior, power steering problem, replace front struts, new brake pads and turned rotors, replace broken fog light bracket, replace some burned out light bulbs, replaced bad sunroof, replaced broken radio, replaced exhaust pipe and muffler, repair belly pan, change oil and filter, change engine and cabin air filter, replace broken air filter box, replace missing battery hold down clamp, new tires, some body repair to the roof and hood, added premixed premium gas. I think that's about it.

 

Does the car have a functional CAT? Without a Cat convertor it will smell really rough.

 

I don't know. It runs really well but now I am getting a P0420 code.
I have no idea what previous owners have done. It looks like the original is still on the car, but when I got it they had put an aftermarket muffler on it.
