Premixing affect mileage?

Only had my 8 about 6wks, an '05 w/56k (never premixed) one owner miles. I started premixing using 6oz/ per tank of Lucas 2 stroke. It seems to use more gas, anyone else confirm or dispute that? I also just did an ignition tune up and was thinking it should've improved regardless? I'm thinking of cutting back because it seems too rich. I also just replaced the air filter so it's not that...Car runs like a raped ape though, just trying to not screw it up.

Yes thank you for that, and I do get what it says about the whole car being maintained. Was just looking for some input on premixing vs not.

No, it won't affect fuel economy to a degree that you can measure without controlling for all other variables.

Premix doesn't affect fuel mileage. It can't. Driving habits sure do though. If you've only had it 6 weeks I don't think you have enough of a baseline to determine what is normal mileage for you and the car. One bad tank isn't conclusive.

To be fair, if he has had it for 6 weeks, he has probably been through 17,653 tanks of gas, so there is that.

to some extent i have found that premix helps gas mileage.. but i drive like a puss puss when in daily driver mode. and all this is based on actually driving a long time on the interstate.

I premix every 4 out of 5 tanks and notice no difference on the 5th tank vs. the other 4. MPGs are low 20s for mixed driving, running the AC in the summer or driving habits has a bigger impact.

The instructions that came with my bottle said to do it that way, I think it is something to do with the fuel pump filter sock thing being more prone to blockages if you constantly premix.
But I am also open to changing things if people have a suitable reason why, would be easier than having to keep track of the tanks.

It was, it was an Idemitsu Rotary Baum kit, included the measuring bottle, funnel, 2 bottle of Idemitsu and instructions. Whether its right or wrong I don't know, but I had read similar things in the long premixing thread. I never run the 4th (or any tanks) to completely empty so its likely the 5th tank is still premixed just at a much wider ratio than tanks 1-4.

FWIW I put it in almost every tank and I never have any issues. I don't know where the "skip every 5th tank" thing came from.

^ Yeah, me too. I use Lucas Symi-Synthetic 2 Cycle Oil and premix 8 oz per tank, every tank. I have never had an problems nor noticed any difference in MPG.

Like Steve I do 8 ozs a tank. which is a 256:1 ratio assuming you fill a completely empty tank, in reality its more like when the gas light comes on so seems to be about 14 gallons of fuel so ~ 225:1 or so.

Maybe I will just do every tank then Jinx, but I just rigged up a nifty tank counter device to the bottle so I could easily keep track, guess that was a waste lol.

Also while we are on the subject of premixing, any input about premixing and then letting the car sit over winter?
