Parts car for At to Mt swap or not?

I'm a new member but I've own my Rx-8 since it was new in 2006. Unfortunately when I purchased the car I was really young and got an automatic. Now that I'm older I want to convert it to Mt. I have the opportunity to buy a used 04 Mt with a blown engine for $3000. It has a salvage title there for I want to use it as a parts car to convert my car. I have been using this web sight for the DIY threads since I found the sight in 08 but didn't become a member till recently. My question is would it be a good idea to buy the 04 rx8 Mt use the parts I need and part out the rest of the car or just buy the parts I need and do the conversion? Both will cost about the same but the 04 I could make some of my money back I just don't know how much of a hassle it would be. ( I will not sell my car and get another I think that's pointless and I want to use this as a learning experience as I plan to operate my own shop in the near future) any help is appreciated.

youll want to rebuild the 6port engine and swap it into your auto car with everything else or just keep the auto block and go with that if you dont care about performance which defeats the whole puspose of doing a 6spd swap imo.

He has a 6-port already, since he has a 2006. 4-ports were only used for 2004 and 2005. Both engines are essentially the same, though I think he should compression test both and use the engine with the best compression. IF he is going to go forward with it that is.

Starting off by rebuilding the blown '04 engine would jack up the cost. He can always rebuild it later as another project.

Beasty - from my recollection of RR's swap thread, and other threads while he was doing it, you should get the donor car. You'll need a bunch of parts you might not think of ahead of time.

Thanks for your replies. I have done lots of searches on these swaps and I actually have RR thread bookmarked because its full of useful information and I plan on us ring the At engine since its a 6 port and was replaced by the dealer under warranty 600 miles ago. I just wanted to see if getting a parts car would be worth the hassle of selling off the remaining parts and shell
