Red face Oil feed cleaning/MOP

Hey guys, first post so take it easy.

I have an 54 RX8 (the second that I've owned) and notice it's not as thirsty on oil as my last one. I've done a bit of reading and recon it's probably worth cleaning out the oil feed to the engine, but I am struggling to locate/get access to the pipes.

Is there a how to guide you could direct me to or can anyone give some advice on how I might do this.

Regards,

Mat

You can't really clean them out, they're fine plastic wires that degrade and become brittle with time. Best just to examine them for breaks/leaks.

When you say not so thirsty, how much oil do you see it consuming?

I would say maybe half a qt over the last 1,000 miles possibly a bit less.

Mine consumes about a quart every 2,000 miles. But I drive about 80 miles a day with 55 of them being interstate/freeway miles. And from what I understand the OMP isn't commanding much oil during interstate driving. I don't think much about it. Maybe I've got oil injector issues.. But I've got a sohn kit and i premix. What type of driving are you doing?

Maybe my last one was just particularly thirsty. I used my last one as my main car, so lots of town driving and the occasional long run. Although I didn't cover many miles in it, maybe a couple of thousand over its time with me.

This one is used more for weekend drives and longer drives 80 miles+. I don't really use it for work as it is only a couple of miles away from my home, so its take longer to warm the car up than it does to get to work.

The SOHN kit looks like an interesting idea. I just watched a video and I think this is what I was looking for to locate the OMP, but by the sounds of it the oil consumption doesn't appear to be out of the ordinary.

0.5qt to 1qt every 1,000-1,500 miles is about normal. My R3 tends to do a little over a half quart every 1k. Just really depends on the type of driving you do. If you want to be safe, the SOHN adapter or running premix in the fuel is a great idea.
