Newb, well more like long time lurker...

Good morning and Hello to everyone!

I have been lurking around here for a while now as I thought about purchasing my rx8 and then even more once I DID purchase my RX8.

I have found the search and Google functions to be a lifesaver hence the reason I have never created an account! I almost feel guilty, always using this place and never even creating an account... But not really... Lol

Anyhow, I love my 06 Shinka (as much as one can love such an unreliable car) and have begun a new journey/project for my girl so I am sure you will be seeing me more and more!

Also, what does it take to get the new thread restrictions removed!?

Josh

I must have missed that part, as when I read the thread I skimmed through and it was a bunch of useless common sense I already knew.

My bad. I will look for another forum that might be able to help me with my project!

Thanks

Wait what? You're going to another forum..? This is basically the only specific RX-8 forum out there. Plus, it has all the information that one could ask for.

To be fair, the guy was just introducing himself.

I get that I missed one line that had the info. Its whatever. I the point of my post was to introduce myself. I am excited about this large project I am undertaking. If that is the kind of "Welcome" I can expect, I don't need it. I have other forums (Yes there are many, though not as big I am on several of them) as well as Atkins Rotary (I am from Puyallup where they used to be located) and other local Rotary geniuses and even connections to Mad Mike.

I guess I was just excited and wanted to share my build plans with everyone and get feedback. When I tell my friends what I am doing I just get blank stares. lol

I only asked about the restrictions as the only thing I read was "you are restricted for a bit to get familiar with the forum" I read the new members stuff and was just seeing newb rotary info. I am very familiar with my car and things to do and not do, thanks mostly in part to this forum. So yes, I skimmed and skipped. I can find pretty much anything I need with google so its whatever..

Just wanted to meet some other like minded individuals into rotaries as I don't know many locally.

It's the internet man. Don't take things personally.
My post was meant in a joking manner, but you read it wrong. I don't apologize for it, because it's a fact of the internet. Just don't take it personally.

You seem to have a good grasp of what you need to do with your car. I'm sure that there are plenty of people (myself included) who would share ideas with you on your building adventures.

Good luck with the build. And stick around! Put on some thick armor and enjoy the knowledge this forum has to offer!

Yeah I'm sticking around. Just got a little annoyed I guess I took the response wrong but seemed like a crappy welcome and turned me off a bit.

I have owned and worked on a lot of cars but haven't been as enthusiastic about any of them as I am my rx8.

Part cause it's different, part cause it looks good and part because it's something new I have been learning. I have always wanted an FD rx7, but for budget reasons have an 8 lol.

I have support from some local friends that have shops (which is awesome!) but ultimately I want to build this bad boy. Until I have built one I don't fully understand the car. Since my car is in good running shape, this core is a project. Don't care if it takes a month or a year (considering my budget for this toy is low, will probably be a few months). I have a spare motor, trans and full greddy turbo kit. so I figured it's time to have fun!

So you are boosting. Good. What else are you doing? Pics of the ride would help the situation as well.

I will probably start a thread for my build eventually, BUT here are my current plans and thoughts.

-Doing a full rebuild on the core just so I KNOW it's new. Depending on the measurement when I open her up I may or may not go with 3mm Atkins seals. Talking with them, it sounds like I may stay with the 2mm.
-RB Street Port
-Debating Bridgeport (But leaning towards no)
-Using the Greddy Turbo kit but thinking about a different turbo or bigger compressor wheel on the greddy turbo
-NOT using the greddy emanage. Want to have a real tune written for the car, probably with Cobb even though in my Subaru days I hated them. Who will tune it is a BIG question
-Going with a bigger (Either 255 or 320) Fuel Pump
-Debating what fuel injectors to use. May go with Greens and Yellows or may go full aftermarket.. haven't settle on the injectors yet
-I have cheap catless exhaust on the way, but intend to custom build my own full 3" Stainless with a special ordered thicker SS tubing to handle the heat.
-Havent even thought about the clutch yet but I assume a lightened flywheel.

On a side note - I bought this motor, transmission, turbo kit, driveline and everything else associated with the engine so I will probably have a LOT of spare parts..

Also, another thing I know people ask a lot is how much power is my goal, but I don't have a goal. Otherwise it would be 1000! lol.

I just want to build one and do it on a budget but right and see what it puts down. I am building it to have power but be reliable. Since this is a toy, MPG isn't a major concern but reliability IS.

Between the car, new bumper & Paint and my donor drive train, I am into this thing for $4800 right now so it really is on a Budget!

The car is an 06 Shinka with 75k Miles and according to the Mazda dealer is on its 3rd engine. lol Current motor has 24k miles. Still needs new front bumper in the Pic. Should be going to body shop next week!

Looks like you're missing the undertray for the engine. Make sure that gets replaced, as it diverts much needed cool air to the radiator!

Which turbo did you end up buying?

BTW, Copper Red is my second favourite colour for the 8. Not bad for that price!

Thanks! I like the color too! I also like the Black Cherry, but I think the white might be my favorite. Probably because I don't see many of them here.

I cut the tray when I removed the lip as it was hanging off. I have a new one that is going on when they do my bumper and lip! That was the first thing I ordered!

The turbo that I have is the Greddy T618Z but the hot side is cracked and I think turbo needs rebuilt so I may go with one of the other "Upgrade" turbos that people have come out with for this kit but in all honesty I may just rebuild this turbo, I think I can cram a slightly bigger compressor in there if I do some work to the housing.. For the weight of the car, I think even that little T618Z with a street port and proper tune should be plenty quick!

The guy that I bought the other drivetrain and turbo kit from thought it was all "Stock" so when I explained to him the motor would have to be rebuilt due to its miles and nature and this was nothing more than a core to me, he agreed on $800 for everything. When I got there and it had the full greddy kit I about jumped for joy lol. Has everything BUT the emanage (Even has the stupid jumper harness) but I don't want to use it so it was QUITE a buy! lol His friend yanked it out to do an LS1 swap and gave it to him telling him.
