new owner stupid mistakes
Hi just brought my first rx8 and love it only had for just over a month and problems have started
Its got a rough idle for 3 days now and has started stalling when i use the clutch at roundabouts and junctions. its also just started reving to about 1.5k higher than it should then falling back down to normal.
I didnt get a compression test before buying.........i know massive noob mistake. i wanna fix this but do i try and work with the dealer to get it fixed or where do i stand on getting my money back and sourcing one elsewhere?
appreciate any help.
i have trried cleaning the MAF sensor and reset but from what ive seen this pretty much sounds like low compression problems

You're going to have a hard time getting your money back from the dealer, that's for certain.
The symptoms you describe can be due to a number of ignition health problems. There's plenty of information on here about that.
Make sure you read this thread once, and then re-read it again, it has tons of information on the causes of common problems like this before you immediately assume it's compression .

Good luck!

The dealer has said they will look at fixing it but don't fill me with confidence as they were talking about checking the compression with the same kit you'd use on a piston engine. Have offered to reimburse me most of my money if it's a big cost to fix.
Thanks I'll look through that and see what I can find

Just go to a mazda dealership and pay the $100 to have it compression tested. Good chance it's an ignition issue like Wyvern said though.
I bought a 2004 back in the day that pretty much exhibited the same symptoms two days after I bought it (except a bit worse). Car would stall out at anything less than 4.5k RPMs. I was about to write the entire car off until I brought it to a friend of mine. I was running on one rotor, with 1/4 spark plugs actually firing. Car sounded like a sick lawnmower. New coils, and plug wires (plugs looked fine) and I was back up and running in an hour or two. Compression was completely fine when I tested it 6 months later.

The only thing I will add is that be careful when you remove the coil packs. The nuts holding them can be seized. I ended breaking the studs on the plate holding the ignition coils. Not fun. Try removing the nuts, and if they don't budge, get some WD-40, blast them and give them a shot a while later.
