Malfunction indicator lamp - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Seriously. If you have no idea what the light is and how to get the code, you need some basic self education. It's a pretty integral part of every car since 1996, so it's something you should know.

You need an OBD2 reader, or an auto parts store that reads codes for free, or a heafty diagnostics charge at the dealer, or a slightly lower charge at any mechanic.

quick question.
Looking at getting an exhaust with race pipe. Which will eliminate the cat.
Which I will will have the 2nd 02 sensor unplugged which will throw an engine code.
I was thinking of welding a 02 Sensor Bung for the race pipe to insert the 2nd 02 sensor.
Was wondering if anyone has ever tried this & if they still throw a code after (because of unfiltered exhaust threw cat)
Because than from there ill just maybe look at computer modifications.

Most midpipes have a bung for the rear O2 sensor.

A pipe without the bung would have to have one added to avoid the CEL for no rear O2 sensor.

A catless midpipe will still probably throw a CEL due to "catalytic converter below efficiency threshhold" (i.e, you don't have a cat in).

Blocking either CEL is possible by reflashing the ECU with a flash that disables those CELs

This flashing will require hardware and software. The software may be used by someone else to create a flash for you. There are several software options, and a couple hardware options.

Suggestion: Perhaps include a link to what owners LIKE about their cars - https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discuss...-things-67045/

Also, while I'm thinking of it, a link to this excellent post on insurance by DocBeech: https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discuss...-claim-218419/

Little things added to post #9.

Post #8 already has the insurance thread. Should I make it stand out more?

Alright, so I'm here to start fresh with a new car. I know I'm not from America I'm from Europe and I live in Bosnia, anyway enough about me. I'm looking for your recommendation and any tips. I already spent a few hours reading all I could find on this forum and I think I decide I will get this car SOON enough.

I'm thinking about importing it from Germany due to the lower cost there, even with the importing and stuff it's still about 40%! cheaper to buy a used car then it is here.
This website is of course in German, but I know very little German and I still can understand the point of it.
Price is 5,872$ = 4400 Euros
It has driven 88.500 km or 54991 Miles
Date: 12/2003
Mazda RX-8 Revolution Leder-Klimaautomatik Top!Euro 4 als Sportwagen/Coupé in Gernsheim GERMAN
Google Translate Translated with Google.
I'm loving the interior and the paint job looks very good and stylish.
I'm in no way going to buy it without giving it a good exam, and the compression test. I'm not going to jump the gun and buy it without taking a GOOD look. at it.

What do you think guys it, is it worth the money and the distance it has traveled?
Of course I will try to haggle a bit and try to get the price a bit off, I've read a lot of things about it, and I think for the joy it's worth breaking your a** for it.

Picture of CAR: ( I recommend you check the website out, it has some nice shots and the interior is great. )

Question about CEL

I just recently bought a 2004 rx8 gt with a manual trans. Unfortunately it had a rebuilt salvage title. The check engine light is on since i bought it. The last owner said it was a bad O2 sensor. I took it in to a shop to have them read the code which did say it was a bad O2 sensor. When they checked the O2 sensor it came out with a good reading, so they did a full diagnostic check on it. They came up with a bad AFR sensor which they have replaced along with new ignition wires and plugs. The next day my CEL was on again. Long story short I've had it in every week now for about 6 weeks. They still haven't found what is wrong. My mileage is down but other than that the car runs great. If anyone has any ideas about what could be going on any help would be appreciated.

"AFR" sensor is the front O2 sensor.

Is the new code the same as the prior code?

I figured the AFR was the front O2 sensor. Yes it is always the same code saying I've got a bad O2 sensor.

What is the exact code number?

There are several for each of the two O2 sensors, and several additional codes that can make it seem like an O2 sensor when it's actually something else.

I'll have to get back to you on that I did not read the codes myself. When I find out I'll post them.

Okays, time to post here first time, dunno if this a stupid question or not *and sorry for my bad english, i'm from Finland*

Anyways, back to the question; I took a look at the new owner thread and have one thing i'm interested about;

Has there been any issues with drivedrain with Rx-8 series? I'm about to buy one and this is the only thing i'm conserned about after reading some threads here.

oh and thanks to RIWWP for a pretty good and informative thread for new buyers / owners

Okays, so now after reading alot more posts i found the info, 6.9bar or more@ 250rpm is healthy. if i didn't read wrong.

The car i'm getting is an 05 with about 45k miles on it, have had full engine rebuild 7k ago because of poor managment of the car *overheating problems in its past* 6speed man. the dealer i'm getting it from said his Ok for compression tests.. Wish me luck

edit:
i know it's not something i'd had to to with those miles, but if the car has been having overheat problems it can't hurt right?

I have decided to take the plunge in buying what I consider the most unique everyday car you can own. I've only had 3 cars, but I loved every one, took care of each, i'm not a hardcore enthusiast but i'll say mid level. I've read the "new and potential owners" thread 3 times, looked at the few options for the issues at hand and learned how to "baby my baby"... This I guess is an introduction, I'm Rav.

The car
2005 6Spd Velocity Red 111,---KM/69,---Mi , OE Lip kit, Red on black interior, In dash DVD/Nav (aftermarket), Stock cat and Racing Beat mid pipe to swap, stock rims.

The history
Talked to the current owner he has had it for a few years seems to know how to take care of it. Engine has not been replaced by mazda. Clutch warranty done, few dealer oil changes, will be getting full dealer history on paper tomorrow.

The Issues
Nothing major mechanically, I've listened to some videos of the 8 starting (listening for low compression) this one starts strong. I know I'm supposed to get a compression test at a dealer ...but personally it wont matter to me I WILL buy this car, reason being I have an engine core disassembled and in storage. I will rebuild this core and swap it if the current does ever give problems. I will compression test it at a shop in my area they specialize in rotaries (after i buy it just to see how bad/good it still is) Rusty rear quarter panels , front lip damage, rear brakes.

The questions
The premix/oil injection/lubing the engine, in the new owners thread it doesn't mention the Oil injector Pump Adapter my question is this a viable option for good engine life.

I'm Rav, new to the car and club, but have always been a fan.

P.S... FLAME ON xD

That is the SOHN adapter mentioned in the new owner's thread.

Why would you drive it flat out at 5k rpm for 3km without shifting?
<meh> doesn't matter it should have been ok

Blinking cel 99% of the time means a misfire .. it's the ECU's way of telling you to back off due to a misfire.

Commonly fixed with Coils and plugs, sometimes caused by bad compression.

When was the last time the plugs and coils where changed?
How many km's on the odometer?
Any modifications?

Blinking CEL is a misfire 100% of the time.
For that: https://www.rx8club.com/tech-garage-...t-here-222280/

A list of CELs from the OEM documentation and their related functions/connections. Look at the field immediately after the CEL text. Only the 3 misfire codes have 'Flash'
