OK, the RX I bought has pretty extensive curb rash on the factory wheels, I knew I would replace the wheels, now I'm trying to decide whether to go with new OEM or aftermarket.


If I go aftermarket, I'll go with the factory size, so it's a cosmetic issue.


The car is "Winning Blue" and I'm thinking that a gunmetal or titanium wheel would look great with that color. But the OEM wheels do look pretty good too.


Anyone with pics of gunmetal of titanium wheels on a Winning Blue RX?

You could always have your existing wheels repaired. I had acquired seven wheels and five were damaged. Six were salvagable and look great now. I can't tell which were bent, curbed, or keyed from the two that were near perfect. To get all of them straight and powder coated and then have four tires mounted and balanced cost me about $650 or so. It's very reasonable and colors are abundant.

 

^This, if you still like the wheels, look into repairing/powder coating. I bet they would look awesome in gun metal, I don't think I've seen anyone with that yet either. I assume we are talking about the 5 spoke 18 inch wheels on the Series I's

How would you go about finding someone to effect repairs?

This is where I had mine done. I'm sure you could find a place in SC, though.

 

Never thought to look for a wheel refinishing service locally, but I found a place that will actually come to my house, pick-up the wheels, send them to a Remanufacturing service near Greenville, SC. There they will have the curb rash repaired, and they will be refinished in gun metal gray (powder coat). Tires remounted and balanced. They will then be delivered back to my house, ready to install. All for $150 per wheel. Outfit called Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists. Scott also explained that the curb rash could be repaired and the wheels touched up in the original finish in about three hours if I chose to go that route.

Sounds like a pretty sweet deal. Anyone ever dealt with Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists? Looks like they are a franchise of sorts.

 

Being from the frozen north, I hadn't heard of that company but, if they are like the people here doing that sort of work, the results can be like night and day. My old boss had a set of GM truck alloys done and they looked factory-fresh once done. I am sure the company you mentioned probably has a satisfaction guarantee as they probably set a lot of store in customer referrals. Besides, for the service they offer, I doubt you could match it elsewhere. I would go for it.

 

My 8 came with a set of XXR rims on it, 8" in front, 9" in the back. And the grip is just unreal. Theyre really lightweight, and I mean, In my opinion, the chrome looks awesome. And the 8 looks sick from the back when its sitting on fat tires. It's not the greatest picture in the world, and its not blue, but theres an idea.
