I had always wanted to drive an RX-8, so while my wife was in the states for a high school reunion, I told her to go buy one on craigslist instead of renting a car. Without asking the prior owner any questions and having her buy it sight unseen, I ended up really lucky.
I knew that I would be stationed back to the states shortly and assumed it would be near San Antonio, where she left the car before flying back to Germany.
I figured we would fly to San Antonio to visit family and take the RX-8 to the next duty station, unfortunately having a cat made it cost prohibitive to fly to Texas. I ended up flying straight to New Hampshire and bought two BMWs when I landed. When $28 flights to Austin showed up I flew the family down and drove it back to NH. It was at this point I noticed that the RX-8 only gets 22mpg while drafting trailers at 55mph, so I decided to do 17mpg at 100mph instead.
The car runs great, only had a P2259 check engine light for the AIR Solenoid that I took care of last night.
Since I already had two cars suitable for the winter weather here, I posted the RX-8 for sale. After getting alot of questions about wether the engine had been replaced I decided to ask the previous owner. He then showed me a workorder with the engine having been replaced at 102k. Leaving the new engine with only 29k miles. I'm hoping to budget better to the point I don't need the money from the sale and can just keep it for summers. I thought they would go nuts in the North East for a rust free rx-8, but there is no interest even though im the cheapest ad for a running manual RX-8 in hundreds of miles.
edit: Looks like I can't post outside of this forum until my account is 30 days old and I have 10 posts... Does anyone have experience with the Gabriel shocks? I've searched google and the forum and am not coming up with anything on them. They are extremely cheap though, I went ahead and ordered all 4 for $140. My car is handles well on smooth roads, but there are sections on my route to work that have alot of tiny bumps, and it really throws the car around while rattling, hoping new shocks and mounts will correct that.
