New here and need help

First, hello I'm Kayla.
Second, I have a gas leak problem in my RX-8. I recently replaced the fuel pump and ever since then, it leaks gas if I try to fill it above a half tank. It doesn't leak driving, it has no trouble starting, it doesn't act weird while driving, and my friend that usually helps me out can't figure it out.
I'm pretty desperate at this point. Thanks for any help.

My guess is the fuel ring isn't tightly sealed or it's cross threaded

I think because the fuel pump is on the same side as the fuel door and it's a saddle tank, that side gets almost full before it flows over to the other side and it's splashing out.

^^*Could be the clip.

Kayla, did you get the fuel ring recall fixed?
If not, bring it to the dealer and they'll fix it for free.

It comes from under the car seemingly just in front of the front passenger seat.

yeah i would check the pump ring and rubber o-ring and make sure the fuel lines connecting to the pump arent leaking. as bc said theres a recall on the o-ring gasket that a dealer will replace for free

scratch that its leaking in the front of the car? that sounds like fuel line connector. get it fixed asap, they have caused fires before. its under the uim

Are you sure? It's only when it's being filled above half.

The front passenger side is concerning.
You should put a fire extinguisher in the car just in case.
If you want to rule out the fuel ring or clip, pull up the cushion, remove the cover and have someone watch it as you or your friend put gas in it.

Been a while since I've been under one.
Is it possible gas could be leaking out of the tank & traveling under the front passenger side before dripping out?

It seems like a big coincidence the leak would start right after replacing the fuel pump.

Update on a closer look

It was pouring out from near the gas downspout where you fill it but like at the bottom we're at attaches to the tank it was in that area

Sounds like you'll want to bring it back to whoever did the fuel pump replacement so they can unbreak whatever they broke.

You could always bring it to a mechanic.

Where the filler neck attaches, there are no other lines that could leak there. There's a lock ring for a fuel level sender near the filler neck however. If that was removed, the o-ring that seals the sender to the tank should be have been replaced. I use a tiny amount of rubber grease on the new o-ring and lubricate it before I torque the lock ring. I do this so that the o-ring does not Bing and roll. If this happens, rhe tank will leak gas and it will set a code for a large evap leak. Have you scanned the car for any current or pending codes?

You can also remove the back seat cushion on the passenger side. You will lift it up in the front and then its held in by two bolts at the rear. Once removed you will remove the small metal access plate that's held in by four screws. Once that's removed you can inspect the lock ring for leakage. Same applies to the other side. Perhaps removing either will help you find the source of the leak.

I asked if the fuel ring recall was done.
A response would be helpful.

Hello, I'm new to the forum and I've got a 2005 RX8 with an automatic. 4 port.
Currently it is not running. The previous owner, my friend, not a hotrodder or street racer at all, said it was running well but one day white smoke appeared from the exhaust..
I am planning on tackling the engine rebuild myself with the help of a friend who is a qualified mechanic.
I have a few questions I was hoping to get answered.

I'm assuming it needs either a new engine or at least an engine rebuild. After looking at a lot of websites I contacted the Canadian Rotaryengine.com, RX7 Specialties to buy engine gaskets and seals
for the rebuild. I understand that they can refinish the side housings and if the rotor housings are in good shape they can hone the surface.
It has been difficult for me to get an answer on what parts I need or how much this will cost. Of course they do not want to commit without seeing the parts.
I was hoping to get some good resources for other businesses that may sell the parts I need. Where is a good place to buy all of the gaskets that I need?
Suggestions?

I am also looking at used JDM Ebay motors from a place in New York. Does anyone here have any experience with used eBay motors?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Would you be OK just buying an engine from Mazda? Because that's probably the fastest/easiest. If you're in Québec call Derwin Tuning

yep well you need to swap a bunch of parts from your bad engine over cause the engine you buy is a "short block" just the keg
