New door or Fender/body work?

What is everyone opinions on this?

I do plan on repainting the car in the near future. previous owner looks like he had a $500 paintjob done- I don't think he even clear coated it.

Long story short the rear driver side is pretty fugly, to say the least. Looks like a five year old got some playdough and did the body work, much better than what I could do but definitely not professional at all.

Back door bottom half and tire fender are what needs work.

I don't know much about body work, fender rolling, or things similar- would rolling my rear fenders be a solution to this? I have stock tires and rims- might be a waste but if I am already doing fender work...

replace the door or get a shop to actually do good body work, not sure how hard it is to fix bad body work.

Yeesh! I see what you mean about playdough. Looks as though the former owner tried to do it himself while smoking a fat one. It's a bit hard to tell the extent of the repair on the rear quarter, but the door looks like a fairly straight-forward repair for any good body man. Best bet, if you aren't a body man is get a few recommendations of good body shops and get some quotes on the repairs. Also, see if the entire car's paint is faulty or just the areas "repaired" . If just the so-called repairs were painted, a good painter will be able to blow in the areas you need repaired saving you the expense of a full paint job. The rest, if just oxidized from the sun and elements, can easily be buffed to bring back the shine with a bit of wet sanding to level any scratches that won't buff out.

Thanks bro,

the paint. . . it's the whole car. Looks like he did a macco special or something, uneven coats, no clear coat, he painted over the third brake light, bodykit has some gaps ( horrid veilside kit anyway, taking that off ) It used to be a nice silver, the door wells still are.

What had originally happened was his tire popped while driving, messed up the front bumper and the back door and rear fender as well, or that's what I was told.

All in all, I think I got a good deal- who knows though. 2004 With 61,000 miles and those are the only issues, all cosmetic.

So, you did a compression test to check the engine condition? If you didn't, I would suggest you do that first to make sure you don't have an imminent engine failure in the works. Also, depending on where you are from, I would also suggest a CarProof or CarFax to make sure the damage wasn't left over from a more serious issue like a rear-end or side collision. Also, if you haven't done so already, check out everything in this thread. It will explain a lot and should be compulsory reading for all new owners.

Above all, welcome to the family and best of luck getting your new baby back in top condition.
