An age limit?

Not really sure where you got that from or why it's relevant.

Travis

FYI, my message was not harassment either.

My point was simply that, if the OP is going to keep the car for a few more years (and it has the original fuel pump assembly with over 70K miles on it), to swap the pump as a precaution as the FSM suggests it.

Ray,
We all know the fuel pumps fail prematurely.

We also all know the fuel pumps show signs of failure while operating due to it's inability to shed heat properly anymore which in turn causes it to shut down and operate again fine after a cool down period.

The Op is choosing to ignore sound advice from members/ Vendors/ Builders and go chasing waterfalls, as is his right.

I didn't see any indication of the OP ignoring anything.
I related my personal experience with 2 failed fuel pumps with a 'Fwiw' thrown in, and Charles related his experience that I was not aware of.
Sometimes people read things into replies that aren't there.

pics of the old and new starter,
https://ibb.co/kgCBKv

only issue was getting the signal wire off, was on there pretty snuggly, got it off but when connecting it on the new starter was pretty loose, was able to crimp the connector which helped but ended up getting mexican with it

Wow...

So putting a new end on was out of the question?
As far as the children comment
I maintain the statement I made to you earlier in a PM, whether that was directed at me or not.

Good deal, thanks for the follow up solution.
I recently had my 3rd flood in 5 years with no apparent reason.
The first one was shortly after I bought it from a bad coil causing misfires.
One last year from my 2nd battery failing.
This has me thinking it could be my OEM starter failing.
I think that will be next on my to do list.

Hit up Amazon BigC.

Make sure you get the N3R3. Everything else... is just a toy

Thanks for the tip.
I'm going to have to wait for a while yet, still have a stack of medical bills to pay, and a message from MDA saying I owe them $28k.
I think someone is not doing their job right.

My 3 cents..

Agree with most said here...
IMO with new coils even non OEM, or BHR, you should not 'generally' have a hot starting issues.

I think as 9K said a Can't Start on a Hot engine is classic compressions and a rebuild to fix.

Again IMO although the RX-8 S1 Fuel Pumps were 'OK' I would have though IF your FP was weak you would have a fuel supply issue all/most of the time.

But as others have said a thousand times before when you are having engine problems.
1. it is always Ignition, Coils, Plugs and Wires in that order.
2. compressions, which can only be rectified by rebuild.
3. Starter, upgrade to S2 if it is a manual trans.
4. Battery and or Alternator.
5. CAT tired, maybe.

A few which get overlooks are Air Filter, old, tired and 50-80% blocked, renew it.
Throttle Body, clean and Air Sensor Clean and or renew.
And then driving performance look at SSV (Valve), and or Fuel Injectors.

As always diagnosing over the internet is not always the right path....but...

Should have read the next page of thread before commenting...good to hear it was your Starter.

BTW: You can do without the children comments, you are a new member, just be careful poking any bears ..
