new battery wont start with a jump
Hello iam a noob when it comes to cars, But i have just brought a mazda rx8 and wow it looks so nice. Anyway a few weeks ago the battery was failing so i brought a new one for £80. I dont use the car much at the momment but start it up every 4 or 5 days, soon as i turn the key it roars sounds cool.
But then i did not start the car for about 10 days, So i turned the key and the engine went click, click and failed to start. So thought i get some jump leads, So next i try and jump my mazdarx8. But now it was not going click click, the instrument panel lights were out, But the headlights work and indicators were fine. But the car failed to turn over. I also accidently touch the battery terminal with the jump lead and see a bright spark, Maybe i have to clean and check leads on battery, But they look clean and the car was starting fine 10 days ago. Please can someone help  |

I would guess that you blew a fuse when this happened . Hope you didn't reverse the polarity ?

Put a voltmeter across the battery to see what its charge is really like. A nice spark when you connect a jumper battery, with correct polarity, means your battery is down. Hooking it up backwards would give a more spectacular event.

Wonder is there a button or switch that kills the engine to stop car from being stolen?
|
Did you do as advised ?
|
check the battery voltage or just have it towed into a shop.
since it hasn't cranked it likely isn't flooded, yet. |
yes i check battery voltage in the morning :)

Charlie, do you have access to a battery charger,if so, disconnect the negative cable, some ppl say disconnect both Neg and Pos, but just Neg will do, let the charger trickle charge overnight.Clean both terminals with vinegar, wipe clean and apply a coating of vaseline to the posts.Clean the cable connectors the same way. Connect them to the battery after it has charged. Then get back to us if you still have a problem.

you are either not getting a proper connection on the jump.......or you have blown a fuse..not to many other options.

If you have nothing...check main fuse...on the front L corner of the underhood fuse box. Otherwise check them all :)

Ok battery is perfect been tested by voltmeter, So tomorrow i remove and change 120a fuse.
If this fails quess it could be a serious problem :):wallbash: |
No point changing a fuse that isn't blown . Do you know how to tell ?
It wont be the main fuse as you said the lights still worked . It will be one of the fuses in the fuse box on the right on the engine bay . From your posts so far ....................... my advice to you would be to leave your car alone and let a mechanic deal with it . |

So i try the 15a Engine control system, power steering, Which power steering not working at moment, This could be the dead fuse :)
Not sure what the IG KEY 15a fuse, just say various circuits. Not sure about EGI COMP1 EGI COMP 2. EGI INJ Must be fuel injection. But think i replace the 15a enginge control system and the IGKEY 15a fuses. |
