Hey I just bought a 2004 rx8. I've been driving it for a few days and recently I noticed a spinning sound coming from the transmission. Anyone else have this happen to them?

can you describe it better? Is it grinding? "whirr'ing"?

Need more info, but I had a whirring that turned out to be my TO Bearing. Good luck.

It's kinda a whirring, only makes the sound when in gear. Can put clutch in and it stops but as soon as it's in gear starts right back up

If that's the case and it stops when you depress the clutch, then it's 100% the throwing bearing. Part is cheap ($30-50) the problem is that you have to drop the trans to replace. At higher mileage, it just might be wiser to replace the clutch at the same time. I'm going to use mine for my next track event and then replace both at once.

Good Luck

Ken

It has a brand new stage 1 clutch and bearing, lightweight flywheel and friction plate, whiten the last few months. Could it really have crapped out already ??

It could have crapped out.....OR.....Operator Error in the installation..I would probably guess the second option...I had a clutch job go badly once due to the fact that they didn't lube the pilot bearing or Throw Out bearing during installation.

Is there anything I can do before I take the trans out to try and fix the problem? Or am I kinda SOL?

I'd get a second opinion

I'd take it to a local shop and see what they say before taking the plunge. Someone else seeing it first hand is better that troubleshooting online. Who did the clutch install? I'd go to them first.
