Need some suggestions on headlights

I found that on my rx8 the ballast is bad on the passenger side headlight. As I do not want to spend the ridiculous price that Mazda wants for the headlight assembly which the ballast is a part of I was looking for other options. I read somewhere that someone just replaced the headlight assembly with an aftermarket one and added on the ballast for HID. I thought this might be a way to go, but I seem to be having problems finding any aftermarket headlight assemblies as every search I do just directs me to OEM assemblies. Does anyone have any suggestions on specific ones I should be looking for? Also if someone has a better suggestion on fixing the headlight without spending too much money I would love to know what it is.

P.S. I have seen some information on taking the assembly apart by melting the glue, but I would like to avoid that if at all possible.

My first thought would be to check the For sale threads in your area. Then the forum parts for sale thread. Many members are selling parts at 1/4 the cost of new if not better.
