rebuilding an 2004-2005 automatic rx8 is a waste of time and money in my opinion. there is zero intrest in them and they are the most expensive to rebuild.
as far as the intake get an oem one, check the for sale section here but dont waste money until you actually have accurate rotary specific compression test #s
yes they mean dont buy ebay coils, they are usually junk
Okay , thank you , already looking eom airintake. Compression i think ill do at weekend.
Well, you know the solution, but if you refuse to actually go through with it, then I don't know what to say.
You said you have the money, so just rebuild the engine. If your compression is in the 4~6 range, hot start with a 2kW starter will still be hard.
BTW, 200 is correct about the early automatics. They are pretty undesirable and so you need to weigh your options here. IMO unless you are disabled or live in a place where traffic is just that bad, buy a manual because it's the full experience. You might actually have better luck selling a broken automatic RX-8 for cheap, as people who do engine swaps don't need the old engine and transmission anyway.
Some other things:
- Unless you are having problems with the current MAF, you don't need to waste money on a new one.
- Getting a used stock intake is the best for the buck.
- "Pouring oil in the gas tank" means premixing. You can buy some 2-stroke oil(not the 4-stroke oil you put in the engine) and then pour it into the gas tank to aid lubrication. Anything with JASO FC or JASO FD certification will do.
Thank you for reply about 2-stroke oil. Dont want sell car, if i think about this before , i can sell it very easy. But i want this car, and i want drive this car normal with pain in my *** :D

Here's the thing: apex seals are only sometimes the problem. Sometimes its side seals. Often it's both. Once you open the engine you may find that the housings have flaked, which means they need to also be replaced. Good luck finding those in good condition because the 2004-2005 automatic engine is different from all other RX8 engines and no longer produced.
So you're looking at $2000 in parts if all goes well, plus your time to perform the rebuild, plus the very high risk that you won't do everything exactly right on your first rebuild and need ANOTHER rebuild in 6 months.
Think you can sell the car at sufficient price to pay for all that?
If you want an RX8, find a manual one and you'll have a lot more options.
Also, the catalytic you put on there isn't going to live long. Maybe a year. Maybe a couple of weeks if you don't replace the ignition coils. You need the factory catalytic, most of the aftermarket ones aren't designed for RX8 exhaust heat..
Thank you for reccomendation about buy new coil, already looking . maybe you can reccomend brand or link where i can buy good one ? ( max price for rebuild kit what i find its around 1500, yes yes its not full rebuild kit, i can have damage inside , but all replaceble)
Thank you everyone for replys, when have any update , posting here, hope at weekend i got maybe good news ( compression check for sure with wrong way before)
What rpm is the starter cranking? Are you testing while the engine is hot? You have to normalize the numbers to 250 rpm. You should have the car properly tested but the fact you are having hot start problems is a concern. Before spending any money on this car, have it properly tested with a rotary compression tester at operating temperature.
your three main concerns are making sure you have above 6 bar on each rotor face minimum when normalized to 250 rpm. You also want to check your oil and coolant to make sure they aren’t mixing to ensure your coolant seals are still good (can inspect spark plugs for signs of coolant). Also, check for any oil leak between the transmission and the engine. From experience, those engines have life in them as long as everything else checks out. If it doesn’t, you are looking at major dollars to rebuild or replace.
Dont see any liquid at spark plugs, between transmission and engine all perfect ( when replace catalytic , all look like without any leak)
Coils and other parts, try Mazmart. Great prices and OEM parts.
I was assuming you were trying to flip this car, but it sounds like you want to keep it.
Watch some youtube videos of engine rebuilds, like Speed Academy, it will give you more info on what you're getting into.

will do, thank you for recommending
Now , i order oil/oil filter/original air intake / maf cleaner / airfilter for original airintake. And start looking how to do rebuild for my '' **** engine '
Plus next week want order ignation coil at mazmart
About money back from this car, i dont care about this. If i need spend 10000$ and 1 year my life , i do this , because i want , and i see in this situation something what interesting for me. I can sell this car easy with double profit now , but ...... i want this car
If you are spending $10,000 you could buy an R3. I don't see the sense in doing this rebuild but if its what you want to do, who am I to say you can't? Make sure you get Mazda Rev C coils. I find the cheap aftermarket parts will work but only for a short amount of time so try to go OEM where possible and where it makes sense.

Its sarcasm about 10000$ . I just want to do this , because it’s interesting for me . I buy salvage Dodge Journey 2009 , fix it ( a lot painting job , what I do really first time ) some mechanic problem , but I sell it with good profit for me .I can buy brand new for 4000$ ( 1000$ Discount if I return my ) with 40000miles warranty. It’s car for pleasure . I’m pretty sure I can rebuild it in budget 2000 maybe max 2500$. I just want drive this car , because after first ride , I say omg it’s car crazy . Yes my rotor pain In *** , but I’m ready , I’m ready for this . I have all tools , driveway , brain , and couple forums . I’m really thank you for everyone for support , if you say my engine **** , anyway thank you .i believe in myself .
try posted here after every update , hope , for someone like me it’s help .
Do what you want and you'll be fine as long as you are aware of the drawbacks.
We have good reasons for the warnings you're getting, but as long you realize it and still want to proceed, you'll be OK.
I'm sure you will get help if you ask, but if things don't work out you can expect a few well intentioned "I told you so"s.
Good luck!
Okay , I buy used eom air intake , and here small problem ( maybe it’s not a problem) when I start install , I understand , I don’t have vfad sensor ( I think it’s call correct) add some pictures, can you guys help me ( I searched maybe hour , and when I find what is this , I find a lot topics where say it’s not important, and just do your car more loud ) I think previous owner remove all when install other air intake . Old air intake I don’t have pipe and vfad sensor
So right now i have only MAF sensor. make a sense install eom air intake, just without vfad connection ? ( just remove from box?)
The nipple you need to plug is on the underside of the intake manifold just behind the throttle body. You can't see it, you have to feel for it. A short vacuum hose with a screw in one end should be a good enough cap. If you leave it open, the car will not idle well.
Sunce this is an automatic it may never have had the VFAD, so nothing to cap.
Sweet jesus, that old intake alone is a reason for your car to run poorly.

Thank you . Try find it tomorrow( I’m not sure if I have it , car Mazda rx 8 2004 4 port automatic transmission)
Exactly, when I buy car , first what I think , I need remove this “ cool loud intake “
i just put eom airintake , and I can feel , car runs better

I'm just saying for now that kind of bottle works in that hole. You need that part but it will work for now.
Have great news . Today have time after job , and do some repair . I install original airintake with new filter , clean MAF sensor ,replace ignition coils ( I read some where if your ignition coils have at back side some gray spot it’s bad , I have grey spot at 3/4 coils ) , change oil, install new filter , and put some fuel system cleaner in gas . And ..... drive at car 15-20 min , and right now , my car start at hot in 3-6 sec , when cold in 1-2 sec .
have small trouble after replace catalytic converter , when I replace it , i put back old catalytic Conveter sensor , at its pretty bad spot on pipe , because right now , sensor touch some plastic and I have vibrating when I change speed from parking to drive , after 1000 rmp all good , but before 1000 I can hear how sensor touch something ( it’s because catalytic what I buy not original and have **** spot for sensor )
but but overall I’m happy , right now car start and drive any time .
Im pretty sure In near future I do rebuild engine , so when I do this I try keep post here ( maybe for someone it’s interesting, maybe it’s help someone in future )
oh btw , I have a little fly rmp on parking and I’m pretty sure it’s carburetor, so next what I want , find some good specialist in NJ and try adjusting this ( it’s definitely help )
thank you everyone for any help / support / answering on my questions.
