So i own a 04 rx8 with 120k miles just had the engine rebuilt. when my mechanic and i put everything together and started it(after 2 months). we came across a problem. the revs of my car would go up to 1,500 then drop to 700 and then the car would shut off. i was wondering if it could be my full throttle or my 02 sensors. please help. the full throttle was cleaned before putting back on. the car also releases a smell of cold gas not burning well so please help

 

You never mentioned if you did replace the coils, plugs, and wires. Have you checked your catalytic?

 

Don't listen to Monchie he posts random stuff all over the forum.

The ECU has to learn the tune.

Drive it for a few cycles and it should stabilize.

Drive a couple of miles and turn it off. repeat three times and the idle and performance should be good.
