Missing CEL light

Hi, a quick question.
The CEL light does not come up even when starting a car. Is it possible to disconnect it? how to check if it is connected? how to re-connect it?

Thanks.

When you switch the ignition on. I would expect the CEL (engine) light to switch on and after starting the car the light should switch off. However it does not go off at any time.

That's unfortunate. The only way to get it fixed is to go to a Mazda dealer and have them replace the gauge cluster. It's buried pretty deep in there and then it's just a little smd led, chances are that the gauge cluster has an issue with listening to the ECU.

Don't try pulling it apart, it's a pain. You can't just swap clusters because the odometer is built into it and won't be for the correct vehicle (which is very illegal).

Are you sure it doesn't work?

Legot seems to know what's going on here.

I'm sorry but I'm completely confused so I'm stepping out.

Good luck guys

Wait a miniute. It never goes off when you read the codes. Are you resetting it or just reading them? If you do not reset it then it will not go off until the problem is fixed and it goes a while without seeing the problem again.

It still should light up when the key is switched on regardless of CELs, it's part of the emissions test and I think it causes an immediate fail if it doesn't.

he never said that it doesn't come on. he said it doesn't go off. Which implies it is already on.

It depends, the english language sucks for this kind of thing because "not going off" could mean "not coming on."

In the first post he said it doesn't come on.

yeah, probably lost in translation. I thought you were on the right track at first, but read too much into that one post.
