Looking for a RX8
Hi Folks,
Hopefully I'll be a new RX owner soon. I nearly brought a PZ a few years ago but the seller changed his mind.
Just looking again I thought I had found the ideal car here...
Mazda RX-8 1.3 (231 PS) R3
but its sold
I'm looking at another one but I think the comp figures are just below min so unless you think otherwise that one is probably a no go.
Front Rotor
First Chamber [680,830] : 637.01
Second Chamber [680,830] : 680.9
Third Chamber [680,830] : 686.38
Chambers Difference [<150] : 49.37
Back Rotor
First Chamber [680,830] : 654.26
Second Chamber [680,830] : 664.42
Third Chamber [680,830] : 686.67
Chambers Difference [<150] : 32.41
Rotors Difference [<100] : 0.29
The results are in kPa and the results have already been normalized to 250rpm
There was suggestion that new spark plugs may make a difference, although I'm not sure I understand that.
Thoughts, tips etc appreciated.
Cheers
Richard

Life After 8K RPM....
Hi Richard,
Welcome to the club. I'd strongly suggest you look for another 8 with better compression. Unless you get this one for 2000 and put in reman engine for another 4k..
All the best

Yeah, that engine is dead, and "spark plugs" won't solve it. If the dealer thinks that spark plugs will, then they should go ahead and replace them and retest. They will then be educated how replacing the spark plugs won't magically restore compression.
Note, that in order to compression test the engine, you remove the spark plugs, so having a new set sitting next to the car instead of the old set couldn't possibly affect the results.
Yes, having old/weak ignition might have an impact on how fast you lose compression, from fuel washing the oil film away, replacing the spark plugs with new won't magically restore compression.
Walk on it unless they throw in a free engine replacement.
