Okay. Due for an update since I got the car. Recently hit 45,000 kms and I've done the following work on it so far:
  • BHR ignition coils, wires, and NGK plugs
  • BHR midpipe
  • SS Brake and Clutch lines
  • Motul brake fluid
  • Transmission and Differential flush with Redline MT90 and GL5
  • New Air filter and cleaned MAF sensor
  • Castrol 10w-40 with Mazda OEM filter
  • Coolant flush with FL22
  • Cooling fan control kit
It ran well before but feels even better now with these upgrades/tune-ups.

I would highly recommend the AEM Cold Air Intake. It makes a huge difference, though I eventually swapped out the tiny filter it comes with for a much larger K&N one and I love the sound it makes at higher rpm. Also, I would recommend adding an oil catch can to your list which you can find many DIY for that in the forums here. The most rewarding performance upgrade for me would definitely have to be my Exedy stage 2 clutch kit, my rx8 is my daily driver and besides an occasional street race I don't race it on track or anything crazy so the stage 2 was perfect for me, very noticeable difference from stock clutch. If you intend to race with yours I'd go with Exedy stage 3+

Must be putting down some serious power for a Stage 3 :DStock clutch has plenty of holding power for a near stock renesis I wouldn't recommend deviating from that without good reason. You can't make use of the benefits of stage anything, and they're usually less pleasant to drive the higher you go. I would deffo recommend a lightened flywheel.

Stock clutches last a long time too, I've got 140,000 miles on mine.

Has anyone built their own midpipes? All the ones I see for cheap are the same diameter and all the ones with larger cross sections are a pretty substantial jump in price. I can weld and looking at the prices for 3" resonators and tubing it seems like this could be done for much less. Thoughts?

I have the cat less because there are no emissions testing where I am. Also, the smell doesn't bother me too much because it's a weekend summer car for me.
