Looking to become a new RX8 owner

Hi all! My name is Marshall, and I'm hoping to get my hands on an RX8 after a few years of owning an RX7. I know, many may question why I want an 8 after enjoying my FD for as long as I did. Simply put, cost. The cost of owning even my relatively tame FD (single turbo, microtech ecu, 4" exhaust, widebody) was astronomical. So now I look to the cheaper RX8. There is no drift tax on it. For the cost of a running, and in good shape 8, you can't even get a rolling chassis FD. My wallet is begging me to get an 8.

My plans for my RX8 once purchased are simple; rip out the engine and throw in a 20b. Simple, huh? Haha. Well if any of you want to purchase my CBR1000rr to help fund my mission, let me know!

Figured I'd go ahead and write out my plan for this build as I can't sleep anyway. First step is purchasing the engine, which I'm hoping to do in the next couple of months. Hoping to get a B series 20b from mazmart and simply selling off the portions I don't need. I'll be going n/a initially, so the turbo is going to be sold, along with the ecu and most likely the a/c system. I'll likely hook the engine up to the stock RX8 usdm 6 speed, or maybe a jdm 5 speed.

The engine will then see a rebuild with a semi-p port before I ever touch it. This will be done by a well known rotary builder who happens to be a friend of a friend. Shooting for 350-400hp. If that isn't enough power for me, I'll then look at a turbo when my wallet has time to catch back up.

My biggest concerns are fitting this thing in an 8, as well as fitting a transmission to it. Of the few 20b builds done for these cars, I haven't seen a detailed build log, so I'm hoping to well document this as I go, with lots of pictures. I know there is at least a kit made for these cars that includes a modified subframe and motor mounts, but I'll likely have the original subframe modified instead. I think I have a connection lined up for that.

I welcome anyone's input or questions to my build. This will be slow going as I'm still in the planning and funding phase of it all. My initial goal is to get the 20b purchased, fitted in an RX8, and to turn the key and hope it rolls down the road. From there, my priority is handling, then I'll worry with how it looks. If you've read this much, thanks haha. I hope I can get this all off the ground in the near future.
