Looking for advice on a sitting Rx8

So near me there’s been this RX8 sitting for 3 or 4 years at a custom car shop. I went and asked them about it. It’s owned by a customer that wanted to use it as a daily, and wanted to swap in a V6. However, she has never actually had them start work on the car all this time. The shop owner wants it moved, and I was thinking of contacting the owner (through the shop) and putting in an offer. I live relatively close (less than 100 miles) to Angel Motorsports, and have slid into their DMs asking already.

I owned an FC vert for a year, but the top was leaky and it was heavy and underpowered. I sold it and currently daily a MR2 Spyder, which is also my current touge and track car as well. I love the MR2, it’s lighter than an NA Miata and has more power, with the weight in the back... but I’ve had my heart set on an RX8 since high school, and the 6 speed, solid roof, trunk, and rear seats really appeal to me! (My 5 speed MRS is doing 4K rpm on the highway!)

Yellow with the factory side skirts are exactly what I’m looking for. I really want a streetport, which is why I’m looking for a non running 8 to hand off to Angel. What do you think? Do I have to uhaul it to the shop or can I have a service like AAA take it?

Even though it’s exactly what I want, the owner doesn’t know that! Right now I’m thinking of offering like 500$. The car is just so rough. What do you think? I wouldn’t go over 1000.

If it runs and isn't full of rust $1k is fair imo.

How long has it been sitting? It’s a gamble, it probably won’t work. These engines don’t like to sit and if she was considering a V6 swap the engine that’s in it is likely toast. $500 is good because you’ll get that in parts easy. Though you did say you would fix the engine. Bodywork doesnt look too bad. Interior looks nice.

edit: if you buy it and you won’t fix it. If the radio works I’ll buy that and the shift **** for $200.

Unfortunately I know the engine is bad. The shop owner said that was why she got it, just to do a swap. She originally wanted to use it as a daily, and said Rotaries were 'race engines'. (Kinda right, lol)

I have been looking for dead rotaries on purpose, because I don't trust running ones. I would rather pay 6k all in for a rebuilt RX8 by a shop that I trust than pay 4k for an 8 with 130k on it, and worry about having to pay 5k to rebuild it. But that's just my crazy side coming through.
I probably won't part out... unless it turned out that more than the engine was wrong. Then you could catch me with a thread on the parts forum!

500-1000 sounds about right. The interior doesn't look too bad?

Whatever way you get it towed, make sure it's on a platform. You don't want the rear wheels on the ground.

that’s why you tow it rear first

Platform towing always the best way to go.

I'd go with a platform tow. I had mine towed with AAA. Just make sure you wait 5 days if you have to tow it very far. They limit how far you can tow when you first sign up. It's very low to the ground, even stock, so it will probably take the tow driver a bit to get it hooked up and on the truck. Hope it works out for ya! The yellow really pops! You also will be getting the "loaded" model with Nav, sunroof and heated seats. I'd say 800-1000 would be fair. The paint on the bumper can be fixed and the small dent can be pulled out later.
