FL Longtime FD3S owner considering adding a RX-8 to the garage.

Hello all. I was told I need to make "10 meaningful posts" before I'm allowed to post a "WTB" thread.

I'm a 15 year member on rx7club but I've never owned an 8 so I've never been active over here. I've had a few FD3S RX-7s over the years and I currently have two.

One is a '93 Silver Stone Metallic "Touring" that I just finished rebuilding from the chassis-up. Stage III street-ported REW, Borg Warner S366, and just about everything on the car has been touched in some way: either replaced, upgraded, or refurbished.

The other is a '93 Brilliant Black "Base" that's currently a roller. It was my daily before but I have a 20B which I'm installing. I had the 20B in the silver car before, but I decided I wanted it in the black car so pulled it and am in the process of installing into it's new home.

I also have a 1976 Suzuki RE-5 (single rotor, 500cc), and a 1997 MX-5 Miata.

If you want to check out photos of my builds and projects, I have a facebook page: fb/theorieRE

Currently I'm looking to pick up a 2008+ RX-8 Grand Touring or R3. Hopefully I can find one in white -- I've always liked them in that color.

Cheers.

Looks like you'll fit in here with no problems. You would have enjoyed coming to the DGRR event with the stable of rotary's you own. The 8 will be pretty weak feeling compared to the fd until you throw it in the twisties, then you will appreciate the 8 for what it is. Unfortunately Florida is flat and a grid. I've talked with a fellow fd owner who said they were looking at getting together again this year for another attack on the dragon. I may post it or keep it private and send out a few invites. The other forum I spend time on is rcc.com.

I used to go to DGRR - I've been 4 or 5 times - but I haven't been for the past 5 years. It's a fun event and Phil and the guys have always done a great job organizing.

Maybe next year...haha

Glad to see that you are an enthusiast and not just an owner. I myself am new to the rotary family, almost 3 years now. Just long enough to get into trouble lol, just went through my first rebuild. I believe that with the experience you have, you will be a benefit to this community. I'll look forward to meeting you and whatever rotary you present yourself with. Hell, if there are any rotary events down south I may be able to roll that direction. I have a friend in clear water.

Hopefully I can find an 8...it seems it's getting harder and harder to find clean ones lately. I probably shouldn't have waited so long to get one.

I used to love seeing the 3-rotor RX-8s run in the Grand Am series several years ago. Once of the reasons I bought a 20B for my RX-7 actually haha

Me, too! I really miss those things. I've been going to the Grand-Am/IMSA Mazda Owner's Corral run by Marlon and Lauri since I bought my 2009 RX-8 in March of 2009 (first at Mid-Ohio and then at Road America), and it's just not the same without the fire-breathing triple-rotor RX-8s.

Welcome Theorie! I do got a set of your lovely LED tails for my FD btw! Patience will be the key to finding a good R3 but also expanding our search to many other areas. I'm sure you'll love the rx8. The FD is great and all from a purist stand point but the refinement and practicality of the 8 is why i still got mine. On top of that, i love the design of it. Definitely feels more spacious than the FD but still feels cozy and the handling without much of the harshness is great.

I'm trying to find either a 10AE or S2 T2 for the collection. Lol.

Got one!

I found it on Craigslist...it was located in Vancouver, BC. This past Tuesday, I made the 7.5hr flight from Florida to buy the car. I'm going to post a write-up on my experience with buying and importing the car (going though US Border Security and Customs...). After getting it into the US, I drove it about 2 hours down to Seattle where I left it with family so it can be picked-up by a shipping company.

The car is a '09 R3 with a few quality modifications but overall mostly stock. The previous owner sold the wheels for some reason, but I also found / bought another (damaged) set of R3 wheels which I will have repaired and refreshed.

The car should be delivered in about a week. Step one will be removing the PlastiDip on the wing, gravel guards, emblems, etc. and then I'll be giving it a full detail.
