Limp mode on my 2004 RX8
hi guys.
Brought my first RX8 last week. Drive the car home give it a clean inside. been driving it to test the car but today the revs are not picking up.
I had no cigarette lighter power so found the fuse box found 3 fuses missing and replaced them.
Took the car for a wash and come home parked it up outside and now I wanted to go out in it.
Started it it up found that I had the engine management light on. I plugged my obdii reader in and it threw a code P1686 which I believe is the oil metering thingy.
The engine doesn't really go past 3500 revs and is really slow.
Any ideas on what I should try so I can eliminate it.
Have had a slight jiggle around the fuse box as this was where I messed with by putting the 3 fuses in.
Any my help will be appreciated

Which fuses were missing?
Not familiar P1686, that seems to be related to the immobilizer, but the limp mode is pretty consistent with an OMP problem. It's under the battery, attached to the engine block, check that the wiring around it is not damaged. That wouldn't suddenly happen with a fuse change though. Perhaps the wash got water into the OMP wiring. Does your car have the engine undertray attached?

No tray underneath the car. I have took the battery off and found a pump that has 4 little clear plastic pipes on. I removed the wiring clip and nothing was wet.
Cleaned that up and put it back together.
Had to clear the DSC again as battery was off.
Started the car no engine light on.
After say 15 seconds it came back on.
Plugged the obd reader in and got same code as above.
The fuses that that were out was a front light DSC and the cigarette ones.
Can an I take the pump off and try and give the injectors a clean and clean it up or is it best to get another one
any advice as don't want to mess things up
can the car be driven like that or has the MOP got to be fixed as I presume it injects oil on the rotarys.

Hmm, well you definitely want the undertray on there, for multiple reasons. It's an active part of the cooling system.
It might not be wet, but high pressure water jets can force water into where wires go into connectors and cause a short there. The other modes of failure for the OMP don't really fit this scenario.. for example, if someone had removed the OMP and reinstalled it without properly locating the motor/sensor on the pump, then you'd have the same problem, but it doesn't some like the OMP has been touched. The motor itself could have burned out, but that's also kind of a weird thing to happen.
I'd give those OMP wires and connectors a nice drying out. Bowl of rice and a ziplock bag type of thing. And inspect for damage at the same time. You can unbolt the whole thing and verify it has free movement, or replace it with another one completely, but that doesn't feel warranted in this case.

I've just had me son bring his work diagnostics back and run a test this is what it come up with.
I will remove the battery and tray again and look at the connections again. Also will follow the rice bag instructions and leave on for a day to see if that makes a difference. Thanks for that tip.
The problem has only occurred when I had the car washed.
As for the undertray I will source one and get that fitted. I didn't see one when I took the battery cover off.

Update
Sorted it out. Bag of rice trick didn't work. Turns out it was dead.
Got a new one and fitted it today. Now all works no lights on dash and limp mode gone.
Will strip it down and have a look why it died
