Just picked up a mint 2005 Shinka with 20K miles!

In 2005 I bought a Shinka off the showroom floor and a year later sold it so that I could get a Jeep to tow my new bass boat. I always regretted that decision, because the car was so fun to drive.

Last week, I found a car exactly like the one I sold with only 20K miles sitting on a showroom in Chicago, so I bought it "sight unseen". Had it shipped and I went through it yesterday, it is exactly as described, a near mint Shinka, just like mine, to include the 6 speed. Couldn't be happier!

Compression results? Just curious on how a ten year old car with low mileage holds up with low miles...You have half the miles my '04 has. How much did you pay, if you don't mind letting us in

I'm also curious. I got my 05 in August, everything but nav and Shinka, for $12k with 18k miles. I haven't gotten a compression test though. I did change the plugs and wires last weekend at 23k miles and I picked up 1 mpg along with a better startup so I would recommend that even though it's not at the recommended 30k miles yet.

Why are so many folks buying sight unseen and without a compression test of the engine? I wish you all the best and hope your engines are fine but you have to resist the thrill of a good-looking used RX8 and get to the bottom of its real condition , checking engine compression, ignition, exhaust, suspension and other key areas first before buying. You really should not buy used RX8s like other used piston cars otherwise you might be in for an expensive repair.

Hey TexasRx-8 I hope all is well with your good-looking Shinka, and MEboy I hope all is well with your 2005. Just get those compression tests done and hopefully we can all breathe easier for you both.

BTW I have owned seven RXs since 1973 and currently own a 2008 40th Anniversary Edition RX8, BHR ignition, Nippon Denso Racing Iridium Spark plugs, Mazdaspeed CAI, Racing Beat radiator and oil cooler screens.

FWIW, my '05 Shinka, purchased new 2/06, had its first compression test last November, with 29K miles on it:

Rotor 1: 8.8, 9.2, 8.8 - 250 RPM
Rotor 2: 9.4, 9.3, 8.9 - 250 RPM

I have no reason to believe it, but I sometimes suspect those '05 Shinkas may have been assembled with a little extra care. Just a hunch, is all.

I sure it is mostly due to the great care you are giving your car, also.

Nice find! Hopefully all is well with the engine. Enjoy everyone asking what color it is etc. I get it all the time. Also I now pass on the torch of responsibility for you to instantly and ruthlessly troll/flame/curse/hex or whatever your fancy ANYONE who claims they too own a Shinka either '05 or '06 when it is CLEARLY not a Shinka. you will see a lot of craigslist claims and such haha. Anyways now its time for you to decide if you like your warranty or if you are gonna mod her. There are ways to mod also that won't destroy your warranty. But you probably will be very limited to your decisions. Remember, you might want to pre-mix since installing your SOHN will definitely void that warranty of yours. Also if you pull any parts off I will buy mostly anything you've got for her. I need a shift **** on the cheap! Always good to keep spare parts. And if you need any shinka stuff from me let me know i've got a few things.

Welcome back, I see you go the Sand interior versus the other Shinka interior.

I haven't gotten a compression test, this is actually the first I have heard of it. I did get a 36k mile warranty, so that helps the peace of mind.

I am just reading the "Owners start here!" thread and it is a little overwhelming trying to figure out where to start to avoid potential disaster.

I paid 11.5k, shipped to my door. (the warranty was extra through USAA)

As far as I know, the 2005 Shinka only comes in one interior color.

Great find. Welcome.

and, thanks for the pictures, looks great.

I recommend a run through the stickies, especially congrats you got an 8 for an older one. It is also available via the $100 thread in my signature.

Again, welcome.

Since you purchased from a dealer they may have already done one. Call them and ask for the results...At this point, more than likely not possible to return if numbers are bad, but at least you would know.

There was no color choice – interior or exterior – on the original 2005 Shinka Edition; they were all Black Cherry Mica with Parchment (what you call "Sand") interior. Later Shinkas were available in various colors/interiors, but not Black Cherry Mica.
