just bought 04 rx8 did i get good deal

ok first of all I have wanted one since they first came out. I purchased a 2004 with 85000 miles and according to dealer updates car has original engine only work done was service and routine maintenance. They wanted 13500 after couple hours of back and forth I paid 7000. So do you guys think I got a good deal

Depends, what was the compression scores on the engine?

If they are under 7s, then not really, you are still going to be paying ~$11,000 for it as a new engine is going to be needed soon.

If it's in the 7s, you probably got a reasonable deal.

If it's in the 8s, you got a good deal.

You may want to read the new owner's thread, as I gather that you have not yet.

just read new owners thread wish I had found this site before I bought. I did not have engine compression tested but that is a very informative thread

Welcome.

Another thread once you get through new owners is the $100 thread in my signature. Lots of good stuff for an 04.

And, Pictures....

If it works fine, then you got a good deal. I bought mine for 7,600 after taxes and stuff, but it ended up needing a fuel pump, new starter, and clutch within a year. Still runs great though.

Without the compression test done, i'm not sure if its a good deal. If the car is running fine without issues, then probably its okay for now. Anyway, good luck with it and post pics of your rx8 will ya...

They seem to worth good money in America, Here (England) they are worth bugger all, I just bought one (for the engine only)

2004 231PS Only 72,000 Miles, Full History, Body got a couple of scrapes (which im obviously not worried about coz I only wanted it to take the engine out) for £1000..

Used cars are worth less in the UK. I think it is because there is a smaller market for RHD, because anyone who can afford the fuel can afford a newer car and because labor costs (for repairs) are high. Insurance might be a factor as well. That is still a deal for an RX-8 though!

OP: normally you want to ask that question before you buy something. Never ask it after you buy it as you can't do anything except get less happy with your purchase :-)
