issue when starting

last night i went to start my rx8 and as soon as it started the whole car started shaking and the rpm’s went below 1k instead of the normal 2-2.5k on a cold start. i waited a little bit and it started bouncing up and down before once again settling below 1k even tho it was still completely cold. i could tell something was wrong so i tapped the gas a little to see if i could get the rpm’s up and instead they went down to almost 0 and the cel started blinking which i read always means misfire but i’m confused how it could misfire when i’m not moving. also i read misfires are likely coils, plugs or wires but a few months ago i got brand new BHR coils and the correct spark plugs and wires which all have only around 10k on them. i also recently got a new engine which only has about 7-8k on it and i haven’t had any problems while driving since. i turned it off and tried again twice more with the same results and it was undriveable so i had to get a ride from someone else. if anyone has any ideas what could be the problem that would be great because if i’m keeping it a buck i don’t know a ton about cars so maybe it’s something very obvious that i just don’t know. any comments are appreciated, thanks.

Have you looked at the coils and spark plug connections? Possible a plug or coil wire has shaken loose. Any other obvious problems under the hood? Disconnected, cracked or otherwise open hoses, loose wires, weird liquids where there shouldn't be?

Would the symptoms of a clogged cat be similar to what he is experiencing ?
