okay so I need to ask a few questions about the rx-8 I just got mine she’s a 2007.

-when the rx-8 goes into idle , does it have a little vibration I’ve heard many different awnsers . Some saying yes since the wheel is directly connected to the driver shaft without any linkage. It’s almost like a shutter.

-to premix or not to premix? is also another question I have no clue if the previous owner premixed and I know whatever you put in the tank should be conisenstent everytime .

-How do I properly start the car? Do I let it sit and warm up past the cold C? Do I rev it up slowly but surely to 2500-3000 rpms? I’ve heard multiple sides of that aswell. But anyways I have a video of the first time starting her when I got her and I can’t add it so if you really want to help I can give me email and send it to you over that.

-thanks

Welcome to the club. Please read the new owners sticky. It will answer your questions in better detail. I'll still give some answers though.

1. The car shouldnt vibrate much at all. It's a very smooth engine. If you are getting vibration at idle it's probably an issue. It should hold steady at 750RPM @idle warmed up. Does it make a difference when you turn your AC off? You should also arrange to have the car compression tested if you haven't already done so.

2. Premix is not necessary as the car already premixes using the OMP. While it's not necessary to do, it does help the engine last longer providing extra lubrication to spots that are missed by the OMP. Namely the center of the Apex seals. If you are using a premix oil, make sure its JASO FD rated. 4 ounces per tank with a cat, 8 ounces if you are straight piped like me per full tank.

3. How I do it is let the car warm up for 30 seconds until the revs drop to around 1k RPM. Then you will want to short shift and keep RPM under 4000 until the temperature needle is at operating temperature. Then you can rev as much as you like. You can post your video to youtube then link it here.

Vibration at idle on any car should be no more than a DVD player or a disk-based gaming console(like an XBOX or PS) running hard. If it's really bad then you should look into it.

Premixing is up to you. I used to do it with half an ounce per gallon ratio. JASO FC or FD is fine.

Starting an RX-8 is like starting any other car. You cold idle for 15~30 seconds and you take off. Keep it below 4k RPM when the water temp is not up as mentioned. That's really it. Any car shouldn't be hammered when it's cold.

It’s hard to tell but first thing I suspect with that type of vibration is engine mounts. The reason I believe it's that is because when you put it into reverse, that's when the vibrations happen. This means the engine is now under load and is not being held in place properly causing it to have vibrations through the chassis. Your idle sounds fine so it's nothing to do with the engine itself. Seems to be running alright.

Right, I was expecting a more erratic idle with vibration. I would try to rule out belt driven issues, alternator bearing, etc. I think another video from under the hood might help us.

Hey sorry I've been really busy with this corona virus crap going on lmao, but i guess i have 3 weeks off of school now so more time to focus on the car . Yeah ill get another video of the hood up and a video of the car running etc. I also think I need to replace my struts because when i take a corner the car is more difficult to handle. and its a pretty bumpy ride. But Ill get back to you asap thanks for taking the time to reply.

On a completely diff note, if it is the struts, what would you recommend doing to get new ones, that hold their value for the price.

You could try the budget option “Maxpeedingrods” I have a whole thread about them. Still going strong 1 year in. Harsh ride but it works and gives you a lowered car. You could also go with KYB if you prefer a more stock ride height and more comfort. Both options are around $300 for all 4 wheels. Easy to install yourself. Would require a wheel alignment.

Your rattling problem is not related to struts though it sounds like your engine mounts should be replaced. Worth your time just to inspect them and make sure they are still good even though all I got is a hunch at this point.

Confirm it's the struts. You could have a broken endlink or another issue that's causing the car to be difficult. What exactly do you mean by difficult to handle?

+1 on engine mounts. Should be pretty obvious once you get the front wheels off if one or both a torn or collapsed.

If you are planning on doing sport driving the Maxpeedingrods are alright. They work but they will give you a bad back. Will hurt you more than the car to be honest haha. If you just want a stock, daily drivable setup go with KYB. I have these installed on my automatic RX8 and it rides beautifully.

Make sure you buy OEM Mazda engine mounts for an automatic. Make sure you replace both. This isnt a part you should cheap out on. That should solve the rattling.

https://shop.mazmart.com/en/rx8-engine-mounts-all-years

You want a set of both right and left automatic engine mounts.

Going through the OEM parts name lost you're gonna have a headache. You want the actual part numbers.
