I may finally be buying a RX-8

I'v only been waiting since, when was the RX-Evolve introduced? Next week perhaps.

I assume you know to get a rotary specific compression test first?

I am looking at a 09 sport that is being sold through a Mazda dealer. I know servicing rotaries at the dealer is a crap shoot but they should be able to perform a compression test I am going to demand before purchase. I am definitely not new to rotary, the plus it's a two owner clean with no mods that I can see. Looks promising.

Have dealer show you the service records and ask about any warranties going forward.
Maintenance items to check on, depending on mileage:

RX8 Club’s recommended maintenance schedule, more comprehensive and proactive than Mazda’s schedule.
30,000 miles:

- Replace Ignition coils
- Replace Plug wires
- Replace Spark plugs
- Clean MAF (mass air flow sensor)
- Clean ESS (e-shaft sensor)
- Reset ESS profile
- Clean power steering connections
- Clean battery terminals and clamps
- Replace transmission fluid
- Replace coolant (Mazda FL-22 is highly recommended)
- Replace air filter
- Replace brake fluid (fluid in the brake lines AND the clutch line)
~$300 USD in parts if you shop smartly.


every 60,000:
...all 30,000, plus...
- Clean all chassis electrical grounding points
- Replace accessory belts
- Clean OMP lines
- Replace rear differential fluid
- Replace thermostat
- Clean / Straighten AC condenser fins
- Clean / Straighten oil cooler fins
- Inspect catalytic converter
- Clean / Inspect intake valving
- Consider / inspect all points in 90,000+ as well, many items fail early
~$130 USD in parts if you shop smartly.

90,000:
...all 30,000, plus any 60,000 not yet done, plus...
- Replace coolant bottle
- Replace radiator hoses
- Replace radiator
- Replace front O2 sensor
- Replace motor mounts
- Inspect clutch pedal assembly for flex / weld breaks
~$900 USD in parts if you shop smartly.
At 100k, anything original in the cooling system is really suspect and failure prone. It represents the biggest threat to your engine.

Today I'm going test drive rex and I'm excited not going to buy it but I wanna see how it performs, going to ask about a compression test to see if the dealership will do one . First time driving a rex and I am fully looking forward to revving the **** out of it

First off, it's rude to hijack someone else's active thread.

Wish you luck for test driving a car you have no intention of buying?
Am I missing something?

It's hard to get a dealership to do compression test on a vehicle. I know I have tried it at a Acura dealership when I were interested in purchasing a RX-8 there it were a 2004.

Im willing to pay for the compression test, but I'm going to try to get a lower price. Im pre approved through my credit union. problem is I am about 110 miles from the car, and the snow came though. Going on wednesday to check out the car.
