I have what seems to be fuel starvation

First off, this is a 2005, 6 speed manual.

So this happened for the first time about a week or two ago. I was in second gear or so and I thought it happened but since it was so sudden I wasn't sure. Now that it happened a few times in succession, I can confirm that is what happened when it did it.

Well it happened to me again. I'm a 58~k miles, I run 93, and my car has been running great typically. I was driving home today and all of a sudden in second gear, it was like I took my foot off the gas for a second. It happened about two or three times in a row in second and third gear. My guess is that it might be a fuel pump or maybe the fuel filter?

No CEL. (It came on a few months ago, solid, but last time I had it checked it was just related to the A/C).

No strange noises or performance issues typically. (When going very slow, if I'm not very smooth the car is jerky but I feel like it's mostly from being new to manual.

I had driven it earlier today, drove it quite a while, everything seemed normal.

I've searched on google and on the forums, but to no avail. I'm not sure good ways to troubleshoot this type of issue, as most the ones I could find were related to misfires and I'll be honest, I don't think it was a misfire... though I'm not sure how a misfire acts on a Rotor engine.

Edit: I'd like to add a little bit more information. Since I bought the car, it's always been really easy to start cold, but when it's hot it likes to takes a couple extra seconds to start. Not flooding or anything, but starting hot it seems to struggle more (just takes longer) to crank than starting cold. I'm not sure if that may be related in any way.

Search rx8 club through google by typing

Replace the X's with what you are searching for.

Ive searched but can't find any that describe their car doing what mine is. My car starts perfectly fine, the issue is when it's running. It just acts like I take my foot off of the gas sometimes when I don't. I'm not sure if it's fuel starvation or not.

unless you can confirm with a fuel pressure gauge when it occurs then you're only guessing whether the fuel pump is bad or not ...

hard hot starting could be anything from fuel/ignition issues to compression issues, it's too wide and generic to answer accurately

The hot start issue is minor. The issue I'm worried about is my car acceleration. It acts like I take my foot off the gas. I'm not worried about it taking a couple extra seconds to crank when it's hot just yet, that I can troubleshoot later.

Have you eliminated any of the possibilities in this thread?

Could be a number of things.

Do read the thread in ROundabout's post. But it does sound like some kind of fuel system problem to me.

So I am by no means an expert (or anything but a newb really) but this sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with now.
My first guess was a misfire, and given that the RX8 needs regular maintenance on the ignition system, I went ahead and pulled the spark plugs and ignition coils, and visually they were in pretty rough shape. Replacement parts are in the mail so I can't say if it was indeed that, but it seems as though this would not be a bad place to start.

I would suggest you go ahead and do a visual check just to check them out, and if they are as rough as mine then a change is needed anyway. My understanding is that white spots on the coils is bad, and black gunk on the spark plugs is likewise bad (one of my spark plugs was also pretty corroded on the terminal).

Thanks for the correction

Here is the DIY I used to pull them. Good luck!
