how many miles/years does omp last?

doing a water pump and thermostat, saw the omp up close and kinda scared me...how long do yall see them lasting? how many miles/years? what happens when one fails, does it just throw a check engine light?

It will go into limp mode and they don't fail often, mine has over 150k on it.

But you need to fix that oil leak.

It's just dirty, but the whole thing is sealed so that's not affecting its function. Don't worry about it.

ya i kinda figured if it aint broke dont fix it sorta thing, i assumed spraying a bunch of brake cleaner or some other kind of cleaner might damage it so im just going to clean the connector, its weird ive never noticed any oil drips on my driveway so i guess the oil leak is very minor. just switched to synthetic oil so maybe that will help, altho 10w30 is way too heavy for my rx8, smokes on startup, ill have to go back to 5w30

Uhmmm 10w30 shouldn't produce any more smoke than 5w30...

not smoke, per say but i can deff smell more smoke at startup and forgot to mention is runs a little rougher at startup than it did with 5w30

right but i can deff tell the difference in a 10w vs 5w in the summer time at first start.

Seriously no. There is absolutely no difference between 5W and 10W in warm weather--especially not with regard to any kind of smoking nor rough start. Get that nonsense out of your head. It isn't the cause.

The leak may not be from the OMP. It may be the front main seal.
