hello all! i have finally decided to become a member here. u can call me lor thor, i reside in northern california. Sacramento CA if u must ask. this forum has helped me fixed my car issues many times since i have owned my rx8 for the last 2-3 years, currently stock 2004 velocity red 6sp grand touring package i think......it has leather and heated seats with bose system at 125k miles. (theres a few other minor issues but thats another thread) so thanks every one!

ok now, i am buying another 04 rx8 6sp with a wrecked front as a parts car for really cheap with title. (under $800) the engine is not damaged just the rad support/core along with everything else attached to it. my main interest is the engine (i will part the rest out later). now here is where i need some imputs or advice. i am looking to rebuild this engine and after some searching i have a few options here:

1) find a trusted engine builder here in sacramento CA and have them rebuild it. (i have searched and only dug up a 3-4 year old thread about a shop in yuba city but i cant find them on google. and mentions a guy in sac but not sure if he still lives here).

2) drive 2+ hours or send to a rotorsport in santa clara CA. (i have read good reviews about them on here but they are not returning my email. maybe i should call them lol and theres a few others in southern CA i can send to as well).

3) send it out of state to a builder (i have read good stuff about OJImports in texas and pricing seems good too at $1500-2500 for rebuild, BHR -but he's not accepting engines right not, pineapple racing -a little bit more then what i want to pay but i can save a litter more for it and i guess they port it a little too??)

4) i can use it as core and get a mazda reman engine (my friend works at the mazda dealership so i can get it a little cheaper, around 2000 or so, but from searching here its a hit or miss with them i suppose. or an online site like mazdatrix or mazmart but no discount)

5) build it myself since its a spare engine?..........maybe i should delete this one, all the threads i read about rebuilding gets flammed on lol

i am planning to track my car a few times next year once i have some things done to get it track ready. saving some money is always a plus but i dont mind spending a little more for quality stuff and build. any recent experience with these shops/builders/engine supplier would be helpful and advice on what to do with this engine helps too. thanks in advance everyone! sorry if its not in the right section

 

I wish I had so many choices like yours. But could you please tell about using the engine at Mazda to get a remanufactured one. Hows that work? I recently seized my o4 RX8 so since its my only car I will probably have to part it out and use the money to buy another vehicle since I can't afford to buy another engine at this time. I was curious if anyone could use their core to get another one. without your friends discount as I don't have a connection like that?
