HID Headlights

I want to replace the headlights in my 2004 RX8. I appear to have HID lights and I was wondering if the regular halogen lights will fit and plug right into the current harness. I just do not want to spend the money that the HID lights cost.

You will spend more money on new housings than the cost of a replacement bulb. I fail to see the logic in your choice.

Do you need to replace both headlight assemblies? Or just the bulbs?

Downgrading to halogen assemblies would cost far more than an HID bulb change, not to mention a general downgrade to the light output.

If you need to replace the HID bulbs, just do that.

The issue is one of the headlights front plastic is cracked and a piece of the back black plastic is also broken. So one of the lights needs to be replaced. The other light is in perfect working order, the front plastic is just very hazed and yellowed. If I put one brand new light in to replace the broken one, it's going to look bad having one brand new light and one hazed light. I can buy 2 brand new halogen light assemblies for 450.00 as opposed to two new HID light assemblies.

Well be aware that the light output from the halogen is not going to be as good as the HID's. The housing should fit fine, but you will have to remove the HID ballast from the light wiring. Other than that, you should be fine. If it were me I would just buy a new HID housing and polish the old lens. After running HID's you will likely be disappointed with the performance of the halogen housings.

What's the best stuff to use to polish up the lens? Where is the best place to purchase a new HiD housing? The cheapest I have been able to find is 810.00. Does anybody do an aftermarket HID light?

Micro mesh will polish it up like brand new if you have the patience. 2-3 hours a light

Does anybody know if thee are the same lights as the American model? Does anybody know if the American halogen lights will fit and plug into the harness? Need help!

Is that for one housing or two? I found a set of HID headlights for almost 500 cheaper than OEM though still pricey. They do need bulbs though I've found a set of HID bulbs as cheap as $45.

I don't know if halogens will fit (probably not because of the ballast) but the bulb code for the HIDs are D2S and they are the same for the Japanese headlights.

Here is a link to where you can get some cheap. 5000k is almost the same color as the OEM bulbs. D2S 5000K CRYSTAL WHITE | 1 PAIR

Yes it was OEM. I really only need 1 new LH light as it is cracked. The RH light is OK. I still am going to have trouble spending $1,100.00+ for 2 new lights. If I could find 1 new HID light for $600.00 I would buy it. Thats why I was thinking to just replace the two of them with the new halogen lights. Just not sure of the harness will plug up and the light will be a direct fit.

Nothing is wrong with the bulbs, they are both good. The front lens on the light is cracked.

Was it in an accident or something? Seems kind of weird that the lens cracked but the housing is ok...

Yes she was in a small accident. The housing has a small crack but can easily be patched. Also the mount bracket cracked. This is easily enough replaced.

Check with Mazmart. They're a forum vendor, and (among other things) a Mazda wrecking yard. Maybe they have a good used one.
