Thumbs up Hi! What version of a S1 RX8 do I own?

Hello everyone from Christchurch, New Zealand,

Me and my wife just purchased an RX8, we are both rotary enthusiasts, I have a modified S4 RX7 in the garage and my wife has always loved the RX8's so we got one for her to drive.

My question is I don't know what version of the S1 RX8 we have, it was sold as a "Face-lift" model but as far as I am aware the face-lift is the second generation, this is what I know about it:

Year:2006
6 speed manual.
Imported from Japan, we are the first NZ owners.
The alloys don't look like the common 5 spoke alloys I see on a lot of RX8's however they could have been easily changed.
It has pure black leather interior
It has no obvious special edition badges
The stereo is missing the CD player slot so I am guessing it had a CD stacker which I can't locate anywhere, may have been removed.
It has the sat-nav in the top of the dash which speaks Japanese (I assume) and I have been told doesn't have any English conversion.
It has full Mazspeed suspension however my mechanic has no idea whether its some sort of factory special edition suspension or aftermarket.
It has climate control.
It has electric seats and mirrors.
It has a BOSE sound system.
Pictures are below, feel free to ask me questions, I looked up the RX8 wiki, it has a lot of the options in the "Kuro" however it says that its a 2007 model and I don't have heated seats, cruise control etc.

Heya. Welcome! Nice find.

Those wheels look like 40th Anniversary wheels (at least that's the US name for the edition). Also 40th anniversary editions are 2008s.

Is there a website you can look up the Japanese VIN to get the car details? I'm not sure if the North American sites will work with a Japanese VIN. Maybe they were wrong about it being a 2006.

It has no CD player? That doesn't sound like any RX8 option at all. The CD stacker on the Bose-equipped ones is inside the head unit, you load through the CD slot. Pic?

Thanks for the reply, I have done some more research around the web and this forum, I have found that they also did packages:

"Sport Package: Self-leveling Xenon high-intensity discharge (HID) low-beam headlights; fog lights; Dynamic Stability Control with traction control; limited-slip differential (standard on 6-speed); 18-inch wheels and tires (standard on 6-speed); larger front brakes (standard on 6-speed); sport-tuned suspension (standard on 6-speed)"

So maybe its just a standard RX8 with a sports package... if I had a Type S it would it have a badge?

Yeah I read this funny thread about a guy asking where his CD slot is and everyone thought he was crazy yet my stereo has no CD slot, ill get a photo soon.

I don't know about NZ, but in North America, power leather seats only came with the GT.

The Bose stereo and navigation are generally in high-end versions only. Also wasn't the Type-S the 5 speed low power version?

Yeah not sure regarding the Type-S, did the GT model have a "GT" badge? I suspected that that model I have is something a bit more special than the normal standard RX8 with the leather, rims and electronics, strange they don't badge the car like with the RX7's you get the badge GLX and the GT etc on the car, unless what I said earlier that its just a plain RX8 but with a lot of the factory packages installed.

This side of the Pacific they don't really have any extra badges. Only the 40th Anniversary had a bespoke badge.

The wheels could just be S2 OEM wheels for any S2 RX-8 that's not an R3/Australian GT. What size are they? 40th Anniversary version is 19" while S2 wheels are 18".

My S2 OEM 18" wheels

Hilarious, considering that my S2 came with S1 5-spoke OEM wheels, LOL.

Factory navi tends to be useless anyway... The last update I can find for my S2 unit is from 2014.

No, we don't get badges like these on our cars.

We are not talking about Mustangs here...

I think the only other RX-8s that had badges are the Spirit R ones...
