Hi from Portsmouth, UK

Hi guys, just wanna introduce myself as i got a 2006 RX8 231PS last Wednesday. My name is Datta, and am 23 years old, currently studying in the University of Portsmouth,UK. Am originally from Malaysia, and an international student here. Have been driving since the age of 17. The most powerful car that i had driven till now is my dads VW Passat 1.8T year 2013 which is 160PS. I havent really tested out the RX8 completely as i want to get it fully serviced and get a little more used to it before opening her up..Hehe...I have bought the engine oil, oil filter, transmission oil, Dot4 brake fluid, and need to order my differential fluid next, which would be Motul 90 PA. I have done my fair share of reading and knew about the need to treat the car extremely preciously to ensure the engine doesnt give up on me like it did to my friend here last year, who sold it for scrap. He did try talking me out of buying an RX8, and so did many mechanics and other car enthusiast. Well, what can i say, it was something about the complete feel of the car, which was the handling, high revving engine, 4 door yet sporty, and feeling at home kinda feel that made me stick to my decision and get it, so here i am on an RX8 forum to gwt to know fellow enthusiast such as myself to have a great time while learning all there is to know about this magnificent lady (beast). Will upload the pics, as well as the oils i plan on using. Will be changing them soon this week, as she does feel a little rough, and the previous owner said it waas around time to service. It was scratched with a key around all four doors, boot, and also the arched in the front by god knows which idiot.:'(.....Want to polish her as soon as all the service is done, using rubbing compound, followed by polish and wax as the last step. Planning on carrying out all the work myself as i love working on cars, and have serviced my own cars when i was in Malaysia. Want to order 4 jackstands off E-Bay to help keep the car flat to help working underneath and to ensure i dont overfill or underfill the oil's due to being at an angle. Gear shifts have that grinding feel to it when cold but much better when hot, and it seems to love high rpm, and hesitates on the lower range, till around 3000. At idle, there is some noise, but disappears when i depress the clutch pedal. Hmmm, thats all i can think of right now...Opps, sorry for the long post...<3 this car to bits and cant wait to enjoy her the way she deserves to be.

The parts shop said this brand is what most replacements use, as they are oem spec. Dont know how true though.

Hi Carid....Thanks for the compliments on my car dude.....finally someone who replied me...Lolz....gonna get her compression tested tomorrow at Reworx, Portsmouth. Called them up today and he said £35. Fingers crossed she comes out healthy. Will upload results once I have them

I did my compression test today and the results are as shown in the pic below. The mechanic did say that its good being the year and mileage. I asked him about the diff oil, and he said its the same as the transmission fluid, which is 75w90 GL4. This is a little worrying, as im not sure if it could be used. He said he has used it on many cars, even track ones and has had no issues. Can anyone please confirm this. Also, he noted that my rear spring is broken, and needs replacing which happens to be a common problem on our cars. Intent going for koni yellows with H&R springs. Can someone also confirm if the compression is good, or am i looking at a costly bill in the near future. Thanks guys.

There's a bad/marginal/good compression chart here:
https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-f...-202454/page2/

You need to check that chart.

Also you'll want to put GL5 gear oil in your differential, not GL4.

Thanks for the reply dude. Checked out the link. This means my rearrotor is healthy while my front rotor is failing....:'(...Noooooo...Well, will have to try decarbing with water to try keeping her as healthy as possible to make her hold on. Will order the Motul 90 PA for the diff then. Was also told that the transmission takes 2.5L of fluid. He sounded dead sure it did. Still thinking if i need to go get another bottle of GL4 for the transmission. Thanks for the advice...Appreciate it..:)

Yeah, I saw that when I ran your compression numbers against that chart. Bad luck there. You need to have that attended to as soon as possible. If the #1 rotor ingests an apex seal the result is almost always disastrous.

According to the manual, the transmission holds 2.08 quarts. You should have a fair amount left over from 2 liters.

Thanks again Colon Terminus....Wish there were more members around this area so that can have a look at the car..:(.....As long as she doesnt break down anytime soon, im ok......Hope to atleast get another 5,000 miles from her before needing a rebuild....Will keep things updated here as time goes on
